Q7 2008 temperature sensors

    Hi,

I have a 08 Q7 and the aircon isn't working - I'm reasonably certain that a lot of it is down to the fact that the jeep doesn't report the correct air temperature.

For example, the temp yesterday was around 19 degrees and the car was reporting 9.5 degrees so when I had the aircon on it wasn't working to "cool" the car.

I know that there are two temperature sensors - one behind the dash and a second behind the bumper on the passenger side in the front and I think that the one behind the bumper may be faulty (there was a small tip to the bumper in the front when I bought it).

Can anyone advise what part number I'd be looking for on this and also is it is easy to replace the sensor myself?

    Thanks

There's not much point guessing like that. It could well be the sensor but get someone to scan it with VCDS and you'll know exactly what's wrong.

I'd assume the bumper has to come off to fit it.

I'll get it hooked up and checked so - was just thinking there would be a straightforward solution or someone had a similar experience in the past.

Is it air con or climate control? I can't imagine it's the temperature sensor if it's only Air Con. Much more likely it needs regassing or a new compressor.

Its climate control. I thought about regassing but the fact that the temp is being reported much lower than actual air temp led me to believe it was the sensor.

Have you tried turning it all the way down to Lo (ie past the lowest temperature until it displays Lo)? If it's still not blowing cold on that setting, it's definitely not a sensor.

Yeah, it blows cold on the LO setting but not at a significant rate - I can turn up the fanspeed and it isn't exactly freezing as it would have been in previous cars I have had so I expect that it probably needs to be regassed now that you say.

Still doesn't explain the incorrect temperature reading... I guess I'll let my mechanic take a look!

I'm sure you've already tried this, but on my Q7 if the "econ" button on the A/C console is on, the A/C is useless.
I thought the A/C was buggered recently until I discovered this fact. Turned the econ off and hey presto A/C (actually climate c.) back to normal.

Good point actually.. the ECON mode is actually quite tempermental.. sometimes it won't switch off - either from the button or from the setup menu in the MMI.

I'll bring it to my mechanic and ask him to lug in and see if its reading any faults.

    Thanks

ECON means you have turned off the aircon compressor so while the climate control system will continue to work with what its got, it will have zero cooling ability other than any cool air available from outside.
