Help turning external hard drive into record drive

I recently bough a late 2012 model iMac and i have an old copy of Pro Tools 7.3 from a good few years ago. I have an mBox 2 mini interface and a G-Drive 250gb external drive. I can install Pro Tools no bother (although i did have to get new ilok authorisation software and new mbox drivers) but whenever i go to open a new session Pro Tools won't let me change any of my drives, including the internal 1 tb mac drive into record drives. They are all fixed as transfer drives.

I've tried reformatting my external drive to all available options(journalled, case sensitive and stuff like that) but to no avail. Is it as simple as my software isn't compatible with the new os on the iMac or is there something I'm missing.

    Any help would be great.
    Cheers

7.3 is compatible with OSX 10.4 so unless your running below this your operating system is not the problem. Pro-tools would not even install (late 2012 10.5)

You prob need to install an operating system to change from a transfer drive?

Where are you formatting the drive, disk utility?
I reckon you have not formatted proper.

I'm actually running OSX 10.8.4 if that changes anything. And yes im formatting from the disk utility. The formatting options are Mac OS Extended (journaled & Encrypted), Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive, Journaled & Encrypted), MS-DOS (FAT) and ExFAT. I've tried all of them and still nothing.

I think you need to install the OSX.
It's been so long since mine were done. They have application folders, library's etc etc......

Try the Mac forum it's something simple.
