I have been looking at the youview boxes on the web and I have to say they are intriguing me as they have the built in players (itv player ,4 od etc...) and also the 7 day catchup service which is dead handy....now there is nothing like this on sale in Ireland yet or is there? Is there any non suscription box (freeview) that has built in web players on it? And would the youview box work over here ?

Freeview/YouView is the UK terrestrial service, not satellite. Do you have Freeview reception?

Yes I have freeview via satellite so can pick up all the UK channels and more...

You would need UK freeview reception from a tv ariel not a dish to use the service

Ok if your getting UK channels from you sat dish. You need a Humax Freetime HDR

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/digital-tv-services/freesat/humax-hdr1000s-500gb-freesat-with-free-time-digital-satellite-recorder-500-gb-13374267-pdt.html

    not the Youview version.
It's the same essentially except for sat dish reception.

You will probably need a UK IP address or access to a UK proxy to get all the features of freetime.

I think the ITV player, the 5 player and 4 OD can all be accessed from Ireland.....i think its the BBC player that cant....

As far as I know only ITV player works in Ireland - 4OD, 5Player and iPlayer cannot be accessed.

Can you enter DNS settings into the Freetime box?

Just get a Freesat+ receiver, and if you are careful you'll never need the catch up services. I can get BBC I-Player on my Foxsat HDR ( I have a UK IP address) but I find I never need it with series link recording and a bit of careful planning ahead, I rarely miss anything I like.
