For a bit of fun I hope some of you will bare with me and imagine the following question.
How bad would chris froomes bike have to be for me to beat him in a road race.

My standard would the lower end of A4.

ie Could I beat him if he had to ride a :
    1940s racing bike
    Crap Hybrid
    Bmx
    Dublin bike
    High nelly.

Please feel free to add in some variables like distance or climbing in your posts.

Same question for froome vs a top A2.

Same question for froome vs a top A1.

    Thanks

    1940s racing bike - Froome
    Crap Hybrid - Froome
    Bmx - redzerredzer
    Dublin bike - redzerredzer
High nelly. - Depends on the format of the race. TT - Froome. Mass Start - redzerredzer

a bit cringe-inducing, but gives some idea if you can sit through all of it:

But he does have legs so with that in mind, any thoughts?

Thanks Pete. How about the A1s and A2s.
Feel free to use other examples of bikes apart from the list in first post.

How about top A1 vs Froome on 1973 TDF bike?

Well, we all know it's not about the bike, but in Froome's case it has been stated over and over again that his dominance is based on marginal gains. If you want to compete with him all you have to do is remove some of these.

I suggest you make him sleep on your couch for the week leading up to the showdown, bring him out for a few pints one of the nights, give him a big greasy fry on the morning of, and whatever you do don't give him any energy gels within 3km of the finishing line. Also, give him a bog standard road bike in the sub thousand euro range and some ordinary kit from Lidl/Aldi and you should be fairly competitive if what I have read is correct.

(For a full simulation, maybe give him a 9 to 5 job for a few weeks leading up to it, and a partner who has other plans for that weekend afternoon that have to be dodged.)

also, make it clear that when he finishes the race he has to cut the grass and see how much he slows down, i guarantee he'll be in no rush to finish.
