I go out 3 or 4 times a week. Having caught the bug, I have just ordered a Giant Defy on line and I am now wondering about proper cycling shoes. To date I have just been wearing Adidas training shoes on standard pedals. Any help from more experienced cyclists would be much appreciated. Thanks, Mick.

Hi Mickrick,

I got a Giant Defy 2 last November (my first road bike).

I bought Shimano R088 shoes.

I've done 1,800km in them since then with zero issues. Would definitely recommend as a first pair of shoes.

Bought spl shoes from DMT guy on Done Deal, he regularly sells cycling shoes. Im very happy with mine.

Sports direct sells cheap ones.

Takes some getting used to!

If you're a size UK8 (EU42), I have a pair I could sell you on the cheap. Fantastic condition, compatible with both SPD and SPD-SL cleats.

Thanks for the information guys. That has given me some food for thought. I need to get a look at the bike and pedals before purchasing the shoes. Looking forward to getting on the road.

Thanks for that Jinky. They look to be both a decent standard and competitively priced. Think I will run with these.

are cleats difficult to get used to. Have a hybrid but changing to Giant Defy 1 over next few days so looking at proper cycle shoes too
