N4 - nightmare traffic delays at outbound (Palmerston) due to roadworks

Between 10am and 4pm it seems every day for the past week or so, there has been tailbacks of several miles on the N4 outbound.

Anyone know how long these works are to continue?

It's a shame these works could not be carried out late in the evening, or at night when there is little traffic on the route.

Its until Monday 7th October! Also from 7pm to 12am each night. Traffic light " maintenance". 3 lanes cut to 1 lane a lot of the time and you don't find out whether its inbound or outbound until you are there! It took me 45 minutes yesterday to get from Hermitage/Liffey Valley to Vincent Byrnes at Palmerstown from 11.15am to 12pm. It was horrendous. Avoid this route through Palmerstown.

sure why would there be traffic announcements on the radio during the middle of the day to alert you of such things? (Irish radio stations only have announcements during the morning and evening rush hour, to tell you the bleedin obvious)

oh, indeed, stuff like this would be the reason.
Got caught heading from Limerick to Cork in a similar midday jam, moved 100m in an hour just outside Charlieville and eventually went cross country as it was unclear if the road was closed for the day or just majorly slow.
Turns out it was planned roadworks but you would think that such a disruption on the main road between Irelands(the country, not island) 2nd and 3rd cities would warrant a mention.

    But Nope.
Traffic is only deemed worth mentioning during rush hour for some crazy reason.
In the UK or Germany you have traffic announcements night and day, and the RDS function on your radio will also work correctly so you can listen to the music on your phone or mp3 player and still get the traffic announcements breaking in when necessary!!

How about Live Drive Dublin City FM 103.2 between 7am and 10am and 4am and 7pm
    http://dublincityfm.ie/http%3A//www.dublincityfm.ie/taxonomy/term/1
Has updates live from CCTV monitoring in Dublin City Council and texts from drivers on real time updates and journey times. Mandatory listening at least before you head in or home in the morning or evening.

indeed its a resource for rush hour but they also have a massive gap in the middle of the day when its presumed it ok to sit in chronic traffic jams.

also, its no addition for the 1000s of km of national road across the rest of the republic.
