PDE and 'subbing'

So I have embarked on the PDE course and following all advice from teachers, newly-qualified teachers etc.. I have left my part-time job -after a year of saving like mad! - and decided to put all my time and energy into my final year of study. I'm a bit worried about the money situation but a lot of my friends who are teachers have assured me that dip students usually get some subbing work and it can keep you ticking over. However, I was chatting with a teacher today and they told me that dips can no longer sub and be paid (after Nov 1st) because they are not registered with the teaching council?

Can anyone give a bit more clarity here?

I know of several people who are in the two year PDE course at the moment and they are registered with the council and were paid all last year for subbing and have been assured of it again this year?!

I wouldn't think the Teaching Council would prevent a school allowing student teachers to do subbing (and get paid for it). I think that November thing is targeted more at serving teachers who haven't signed up. It doesn't make much sense to target people who'll probably end up signing up once they qualify anyway.

If Haddington Road goes through though the subbing hours will be very thin on the ground.

You have to register with the TC to get paid from state funds after November. You can register as a student teacher I think.

Unfortunately only fully qualified teachers can register.

    Why is this unfortunate?
It is only right that only a qualified teacher should be paid.

Unfortunate for the person asking the question.

But only right that subbing is done by qualified teachers

Just to add my two cents.
I did the PDE last year and my school gave me no subbing.
This is because teachers who are not registered with TC cannot do subbing.
Subbing that was available in my school was given to available teachers in the school to bulk up their hours.. (or so I was told anyway)
