A friend of mine recieved 2 penalty points for doing 60k in a 50k limit.
Paid the fine and took it on the chin.
Today got a letter saying that a member of AGS has decided to drop the points?
He never asked or looked for them to be dropped.
Andyeah can be get his Fine money back?
    Man y thanks in advance.

    Sorry on my phone.

If it was me I'd stay quiet and say nothing - why poke the bear?

Someone else who got fined probably challenged their fine. The camera was probably not recently calibrated and they decided to drop all fines on that day or something similar.

It seems very strange to me backtracking like that?
He is unemployed at the moment so the money would come in handy.

And the lack of points even handier. I'd steer clear.

My friend got a check yesterday for the fine amount.
The letter stated the speed limit had no legal basis?
    What does that mean?

    - Temporary roadworks limit that hadn't had the paperwork filled out properly?
    - Old limit sign that hadn't been removed/updated?
    - Garda error. Wasn't there a case in Louth a while back where a load of motorists had their fines/points cancelled because they had been done for being over 80 when the road had been re-classified to 100?

He was done on the Navan Road near the police station, fine said Castleknock.
    Could this be the case?

    Near Blanch Station ?

It's odd there. Runs from 30 to 80 and to 100 before the lights off to Blanch village.

Did he apply for the refund or just receive it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,477 ✭✭✭Hootanany

It came about 2 days after the letter was issued.
