Building ramp for steep garden steps?

I have a 3 month old lab and unfortunately our back garden has about 8 steps leading steeply up from the back door. This is where we play so he has to get to the top of the steps. He has no problem with them but I don't want him to damage his hips while he grows so I'm thinking of building a simply wooden ramp for him. Is this too over-the-top?

He'll be grand with the steps, when he gets older you might have to do something

From what I've seen in other threads there are people who'd say the other way around on that advice.

To OP; it never hurts to be careful but ensure that the ramp can't slip (or get slippery) if he gets excited running out/in on it and of course smoothing the wood etc.

If it's that steep OP, maybe the steps would be easier on him than a ramp?

Yeah thinking about it the steps are probably easier, he takes them slowly so no mad belting up and down. I happened to be talking to my vet after work and he said forget about the ramp, over the top he said. Thanks for your replies!

Thanks boomerang! He's my first dog so I just want to give him the best life I can (sometimes I want to kill him but that wears off!)
