I'm visiting a friend in Abu Dhabi for 3 weeks at the end of Sept - has anyone been there and if so can you recommend things to do, places to see etc.

Also, I serached online for Visa requirements for Irish citizens. There doesn't seem to be one for us - can anyone confirm or deny this?

No visa required for Irish citizens to enter the UAE. Can't give you any tips for things to do/see in Abu Dhabi but when not take a trip to Dubai? It's only about an hour away.

IMHO this is something you definitely shouldn't do. Dubai has become a Las Vegas of the Middle East only with less class. Abu Dhabi is a far nicer place to spend a few days and you might even meet a local. It is certainly more authentic and representative of a (wealthy) UAE city and there is plenty to do there.

Definitely check out the Emirates Palace and the Grand Mosque(not sure of its name but google it).

A mate of mine also did a dessert safari tour in Au Dhabi and highly recommends it.
