I believe i may have Coccidiosis in the calves (Group of 6). One of them has bad diarrhea (watery) and the rest have dirty tails. they are out on pasture for the last 2 months and have no loss of appetite to date. what do you recommend for treatment

we just did the calves with the sympthons too last year,
this year we were advised by our vet to dose all the weanling. i tried to convince the father not to but we went along and did them all, works out v expensive.

also works out expensive if they die, every calf here gets vecoxan at 10 days old and again 10 days later if needed

u can get a brown powder from the vet. he will tell you to mix a spoon full with water but use a fist of it and a tea spoon of sulphur powder. had one calf was very bad last week and one dose of it cured him.

Was told there today that there is a lot of it this year due to the heat stress on cattle earlier in the year. A lot of lung worm doing the rounds too

I gave mine 40 ml as they are near 100kg and was told to keep an eye on them in 8 weeks to see if it returns but I'm told that because I got it the once ill have to keep an eye on the cattle in future years as it returns to the land.
I'm thinking of feeding the calves a bit of hay for the next few days to help dry them up, would this be a good idea does anyone know

same problem here, vet recommended taking the worst off grass all together and feeding hay instead. said the grass would go straight thru them

The Vecoxin cures the scour quickly.
Unless awful I wouldn't bother feeding hay.

none of them seem to be under any stress tho. i gave them a little hay earlier on and they tore into it like their life depended on it. Ill give the dose a day or two first

Which? The journal or the cocci? -;)

Decox is the name of the brown powder, i think, I'm not sure it's still available, I got a big bag of it a few years ago about 5 lbs but its nearly gone now, usually treat every calf at a few weeks old and again if any calf gets it

I don't think your problem is Coccidiosis unless there are traces of the gut lining or blood showing in the dung.

the vecoxin seems to have done the trick tho, for the time being
