Just saw end of vb where they were discussing jesus and the bibles failure to condemn slavery to which a devotee relied that we must look at the context of the times. Are we to believe that Jesus was a moral relativist? Could slavery have been morally acceptable in a certain context? Have we not been told ad nausea that god is the source of objective morality? I guess I just never thought it would be so malleable

yup having read the bible you can pick out parts to justify any number horrendous acts as moral. but as they say sur back in the day raping women and killing children and slavery, god was grand with it then cause it was the times. you would swear it was written by a person who lived back in those time or something

If it's all relative, then presumably their attitudes to contraception will be viewed as wrong by Catholics in years to come?
