Couple of friends thinking of heading backpacking to SE Asia for 4 weeks and we've narrowed it to Vietnam and Cambodia or else Indonesia. Flights are the same price but can't do both...any recommendations on where would be better? Heading in October

Haven't been to Indonesia but Vietnam is an amazing country. I'd say you could easily spend your 4 weeks there. Hiking/trekking around the North and a cruise on Halong Bay.
While haven't been down to the South of the country, I hear it also has lots to offer - the Mekong Delta, HCMC, floating market, Nha Trang, Da Lat, little local beaches at Hue.... Wish we'd had more time to make our way there too.

Depending on your friends, I'd advise a 4 week trip in VN with 2/3 weeks on bikes. I don't rate Cambodia that highly at all but Sumatra is supposed to be amazing but a more difficult trip.
