Hi all. My '97 Micra has reached the end of its days I think, so I'm on the market for a car.

After driving the Micra for 3.5 years, I'm thinking of buying something a small bit bigger. I'm trying to keep under €2000 and I'm looking for something ultra reliable, cheap to run and cheap to tax and insure. I don't care if it's boring! :D I was thinking of a Toyota Corolla or a Mazda 323, and I'm not worried about selling it on. I'll be doing most/all of the maintenance myself.

I do Galway-Cork and back every week or so, so I'd say I'd easily do 12-15000 miles in a year.

Any suggestions? Any other reliable cars I'm overlooking?

Civic, 323, corolla, can't really go too far wrong with those 3 providing they haven't been rallied.

Add the Mitsubishi Lancer to that list also as long as it hasn't been pretending to be an Evo by a previous owner.

Mitsubishi Colt is another good car.

Don't know much about Lancers. What kind of mpg would I expect to get out of those? Is there anything I need to look out for mechanically?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I spotted a Micra going for cheap today so I bought it! :D It'll keep me going for a while anyway.
