Windows 8 to 7

I recently got a new laptop that has Windows 8 on it, and even with the 'Classic Shell' its taking a lot of getting used to and I'm not sure I like it. I'd much prefer to go back to Windows 7 but not sure if I can.
I have a Windows 7 disc but it's an 'upgrade' one which says it's for upgrading from Vista so I'm not sure it'd work to downgrade from Windows 8?

If not is there any other way to go back to Windows 7 or am I stuck getting used to the windows 8?

    Thanks!
Might give Windows 8 a bit more of a chance before getting rid of it altogether.

when you get windows pre-installed you can't go back without getting another license.

downgrade rights are usually one of the "extras" you get with the business/professional versions of windows

also the upgrade version can only be used once, and when it's used it kills the license it upgrades from, also if you upgraded an OEM copy of windows you can't the upgrade is now bound to the same motherboard and lives or dies with it

have a look at other threads, there are ways to get the start button back
