A temp stairs is usually made on site, so get a carpenter and he can work out what you will need. It will be a few lengths of 225mm x 45mm and some 100mm nails. Use two 225 x 45 for the strings and cut some more 225 x 45 to the required length for the treads. House the treads into the strings and nail everything together. No need for risers in a temp stairs.

or if you are lucky you might find one at a new build that has been recently finished

Try donedeal or maybe ask local builders providers if they know anyone who's building locally...they might be finished with theirs.

there are 3 on adverts.ie, the link below is for one in kilmaley, co.clare, might suit you. The seller is looking for €100 but he is probably also looking to get rid of it so there's probably scope for a bit of haggling.

When I built; the roofer done one which lasted the whole build until the screed was put it........ saved a lot of hassle too.

I think from a health and safety point of view, u should have risers, keeps Ur boot in place, saves people slipping as they climb up that stairs carrying heavy stuff..

You could put risers in... but there really is no need for risers in a temp stairs.

You need to use 5 or 6 inch Nails. Especially with the Weight that they will have to carry. A dab of Wood Glue also wouldn't be out of place either.

if a housing joint is used to join the treads to the string then 100mm nails are more than enough.

Yes I agree with you if housing joints are used. But the OP is looking for a Temporary Staircase. I suspect he's looking for something cheap but safe that can be knocked up on Site. I've built and used temporary Stairs ( no Housing joints ) on site using 4 inch nails. But after a while from all the use and weights carried up them they begin to spread at the joints.

6x130 mm screws will be better. They grab better than nails and are easier to take of when you'll dismantle the stairs.

A little test : try to take of a nail with a crowbar : pretty easy...
Do the same with a screw : good luck !

Best thing for your stairs : few 6'x2' or 9'x2' from your local timber merchands, and do it yourself ( or carpenter), on site.
If you buy one , think of the transport. It's usually a bulky and heavy piece to move around, IMHO.

    ;)

No need for housing joints or screws just nail short pieces of 2x1 1/2 under each thread onto the string plenty strong and will last through the build no problem have done several and never a budge.
