Hi, I sold a 100% working Humax Foxsat HDR 500gb about a year old abd sent it by hermes courier. The buyer messaged me today 2 weeks later saying it is faulty and wants a refund but just not seem right.

Their message "It will not allow you to watch other channels whilst recording, which sort of defeats the object, and it records selectively, ie, not everything you set it for. I have tried everything to get it working, thinking I had wired it wrongly, and finally called in an expert who said it was wired correctly and the box is at fault"

The fact this is the first contact in 2 week seems suspicous and to me sound like he is missing the extra satellite cable to record and watch even though he has had a "Expert" look at it.

Any idea would be great, feeling l am being scammed.

Tell him to FO. He has'nt a leg to stand on. In private sales its a case of Caveat Emptor(Buyer Beware).

Did you mention the extra cable to him after he contacted you about the issues?

yes I have replied saying just before we packaged it was 100% working recording, etc. Then asked if he has 2 satellite wire going to the box and to make sure he got fresh batteries in remote. Waiting for reply. It just seem fishy as its seems vague and if for any reason it had a knock it most likey not switch on.

Dose sound iffy. Maybe offer a refund if he sends you item back as it was when sold, say you have it marked, with smart water or whatever, so you know whether it's the one you sent him or not (even if you don't have it marked). Obviously he pays to return item until you've tested it, and you offer to refund cost of item but not postage costs. Ideally then, you have lost nothing.

You are right about eBay siding with buyers though, mean spirited thing to do would be cancel credit card associated with PayPal, close PayPal account after transferring money out of it.

I doubt if ebay would entertain a claim after a year.

The unit is a year old.
The OP sold it second hand @2weeks ago via Ebay to a buyer who is claiming it is faulty.

Did the "expert" confirm if it was configured properly? Even with the two sat cables you must configure the box to see both.

Ask for some evidence that this EXPERT is in fact a registered installer who installs for a living and not a guy who knows a few bits and bobs about satellite systems he learned from online forums. Ask for contact details for this Expert.
