    Yaris or Vitz?

If the car has hydraulic power steering (think the jap built ones do) then they may share a belt.
What engine is it and do you know where it was built?
French ones chassis number starts with VNKK, Japanese ones with JTD

yes it says Europe so its the french one VNK, its the 1300cc
The a/c compressor is still on the the car , we didnt detach the belt or anything, its all there , all we did was remove the a/c pipes.

Does the car have electric power steering or a belt driven pump?

Did you remove the drive belt belt when you worked on the pipes?

Is there a possibility you could have blown a fuse, maybe shorted a connection with a pipe.

Is the system charging the battery? low voltage may cause electric ps to be disabled.

French built examples definitely have electric power steering.
