Hi all , looking to insulate the ceiling of my living room/dining room . It's a high ceiling raising from 9feet to just over 12feet at the highest point.

Currently the ceiling is cladded with wood paneling. Above the paneling are the rafters 110cm deep.

I'm retiling the roof and replacing the old felt backed with chipboard with a breathable membrane.

Need advice on insulating the area below the membrane. Was looking at moy metac insulation and possibly replacing the wood paneling with plasterboard?

Any thoughts on best insulation for this?

    Many thanks

The best insulation for this is king span type high density. When the roofs been stripped cut the sheets to size and put them between the rafters if the space is 110mm go with 90mm as you need air flow around the timbers

i think you are meant to have a 50mm airflow

Yes but he's also putting on breathable felt which should make up any shortfall

Have read with breathable membrane the gap can be as little as 25mm not sure if this true or good practice.

Is it possible to add some battons along the rafters to make them deeper? . I would like to add 100mm of insulation here and then have the gap to allow air to pass. Then insulate the ceiling with a suitable insulated plasterboard

    Thanks again

Give consideration to a new suspended ceiling. Drop it all down to 8 feet and then you can put as much insulation in as you like. It's not the dearest of options, its very practical but might be a bit daunting as a DIY.

Spray foam it,then install either 35mmm insulated slab or normal 12mm "foil backed" board.

    Simples.
