Ok so I've a 00 Corrola saloon 1.4 and trying to get insured atm is an issue . I want to get it under my own name first of all. I'm 17 on provisional license but have been named driver on another vehicle for 8 months now so have driving experience . I've been trying loads of different quotes and can't seem to get it for a reasonable price, best being 3200... Tbh if I got it for 2500 or under I'd be happy.. Anyone know of any good insurance companies for young drivers ? Thanks

Are you ringing or using online quoting systems? The best way to get a good quote is to pick up the phone. Also try some brokers who may be able to get you a better quote compared to going direct to the insurers.

    Both :)..
Yeah I've rang quite a few tbh, best help I got was from first Ireland , they said if I waited till I turned 18 and had 1 year named driver NCB it would be 1900 on provisional and less on full license( which I hope to have ) , but tbh I want to get insured before then

    Try liberty if you haven't.
They're the only ones who have given me a decent quote for the last 3 years.

I presume you will be 18 in 4 months time. I seriously suggest you wait until than and get your full licence in the meantime. It's not as if you would be able to drive on your own with a learners permit. The difference in money is too significant to ignore

Yeah your prob right, I will hopefully have my full license by then too,
Also one last question as the personwho quoted me never ask me this.. The named driver no claims I have is on a commercial , will that make a difference seeing as it will be private insurance I'll be getting ?

I wouldn't think they would take 8 months named driving as experience in your quote.

It will be a year when I turn 18 which is when I'm getting insured

Just keep playing each company against each other, that'll bring them down ;)

When it comes to named driving experience counting as actual driving experience it really varies between companies as to what they are prepared to accept. Axa for example stipulate that no claims discount must have been obtained on a car.

Unfortunately for the OP a 17 year old with no license and no experience is just about the last driver any insurer wants to touch, so the chances of playing them off against each other are pretty slim!
