I am looking to spend ~500 on good surround speakers (2 front and 2 rear L&R, center speaker and sub woofer). I used to have Bose speakers, loved them, they were clear on lower sounds and higher sounds. Old now though. Can anyone tell me a good set of speakers that I should look for?

    Thanks.

    Hi Guscat,

Thanks for getting in touch, and apologies about the delay in getting back to you.

I've got the perfect pack for you.  It's the Monitor Audio Vector 5.1 pack.  Current price on this is £299.95 / €365.79.

We're down to our last one and then that's them done :(  Real shame cause for the money it was a fantastic pack.  The front V10 speakers are fantastic for music as well.  It's the perfect all rounded in my opinion.

Check the link below for more info:

    http://www.whathifi.com/review/monitor-audio-vector-av10

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Yes this looks like a good system and you understand that I really want something to listen to music on that can also act as a surround system. I have 3 weeks to decide on a good system including a new amp. I wouldn't mind the rear speakers to be towers as I don't want to use brackets or stands. Could you recommend both speakers and amp?

    Thanks,
    Guscat.

    Hi Guscat.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure if your budget is Euro or sterling so here goes :

    Sleek floorstanding front speakers :

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/floorstanders/cambridge-audio/s70/camb-s70-blk

    Wall mountable rear speakers :

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/standmount-speakers/cambridge-audio/s20/camb-s20-blk

    Centre speaker :

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/centre-speakers/cambridge-audio/s50/camb-s50-blk

    Subwoofer :

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/subwoofers/cambridge-audio/s80/camb-s80-blk

    Total - £549.80

We can do this for £500 including delivery.

I would reckon this is the best system with floorstanders that you can get for £500.

Keep me posted if you meant sterling or Euro !

    ATB

    Dave

Alternatively, you could go for the Vector package as above and add the Cambridge S70 floorstanders which would work out at £519.95 including delivery and you would have an extra pair of speakers.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. Apologies for the delay in my return response. I was away this past week and am just getting back to this now.
My budget is in Euros. I would be willing to spend 700 max euros including an amp for a sound system. I would like to be able to plug in my phone or laptop and listen to music, with a good sound from the center speaker. And also to watch movies from my laptop & dvd player connecting to the amp & sound system for great surround sound. I would require rear towers (front could be either). I would like also an aesthetically pleasing system. But most importantly would be the sound. Crisp and clear with a good sub and surround sound.
If there is anything else you would like to know please let me know. I do like the look of the vector package. They also look good. I don't mind also separating my speakers around a good center speaker, good amp and good sub.

    Thanks,
    G.

    Hi G,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Reading this would it be possible to up the budget to €755?

For the extra €55 you'll be walking away with a fantastic system!

    Amp:
    Yamaha RXV373:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/yamaha/rxv373/yama-rxv373-blk

    Surround Sound:
    Monitor Audio Vector 5.1

    Floorstanders:
    Mission M33i Floorstanding speakers:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/floorstanders/mission/m33i/miss-m33i-blk

This system comes in at €755.00.  Delivery on the lot would be just €15.00.

Let me know what you think.

    Chris

    That looks Good.

I don't know if I need spare speakers though. But do you think you would swap the M33i for the Tannoy Mercury V4?

    Hi Guscat.

The Vector packs have now all gone with no more stock due to arrive :(

You could indeed move up to the Tannoy V4 speakers and get a better base response from them over the M33i's. However the V4's are now in store only and we can not ship these speakers.

    Tannoy V4 priced at £199.59
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/floorstanders/tannoy/mercury-v4/tann-v4-dk-oak

You could look at the Cambridge Audio S70 priced at £229.95
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/floorstanders/cambridge-audio/s70/camb-s70-blk

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Kenny,

    Thanks for the response.
Would you recommend Cambridge over Tannoy as a brand? I was looking at the http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/cambridge-audio/s-av-pack/camb-s70-pack

    Along with the
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/subwoofers/cambridge-audio/minx-x200/camb-minx-x200-blk

    And amplifier
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/yamaha/rxv373/yama-rxv373-blk

Would you recommend this as a full package? Can all be connected up as one 5.1 system?
My needs as mentioned before is:
I would like to be able to plug in my phone or laptop and listen to music, with a good sound from the center speaker. And also to watch movies from my laptop & dvd player connecting to the amp & sound system for great surround sound. I would require rear towers (front could be either). Of course i was also looking at
    http://www.richersounds.com/package/speakers/speaker-packages/pah01304

But my budget would be 700 euros. Pity.

    Hi there.

Yip, unfortunately that system will come in at quite a bit over the 700 Euro mark and the Dali is slightly more expensive again :(but so will the Tannoy system. I personally prefer the sound of the Cambridge system as it's more detailed and less bass loaded than the Tannoy. It's a much more refined sound.

It's looking like with the budget and type of system you would like, it'll be tricky to get a system like this within the budget.

You may have to go for a 5.1 system, floorstanders and receiver similar to something like Chris recommended before.

The Tannoy SFX package at £199.95 with the Cambridge S70 floorstanders and the Yamaha RXV373 would come in at 749 Euro which is still over.

The package that I would suggest, in this layout would be :

Denon AVRX500 - Go for as good a receiver as you can within the budget.
Mission M33i - If these are rear speakers only then the quality is not that vital as these are only surround speakers.
Tannoy SFX5.1 - A great value 5.1 system that works really well with the Denon and is well reviewed.

Total including delivery - 725 Euro.

I really can't see a better system than this for the money.

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for the response.
I do like the Cambridge over Tannoy. I was thinking the http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/cambridge-audio/s-av-pack/camb-s70-pack

    And amplifier
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/yamaha/rxv373/yama-rxv373-blk

And not the subwoofer, this I could get another time.

Would you recommend this as a full package? Can all be connected up as one 5.1 system without the sub? Would the speakers themselves provide enough of the sub for now? Or would I be mad getting all this without the sub?

    I would get the:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/cambridge-audio/s20-5.1/camb-s20-pack

However I really do want the rear speakers to be tower speakers.

Perhaps i'll look around a little longer or save more haha.

    Thanks,
    G

    Hi G,

Thanks for getting back to us.

The S70 5.0 pack is very good.  If you're planning to swap it round though and use the floorstanders as rears then I'd suggest going for a sub with the pack.

For a sub to match check out the Cambridge Audio S80 currently sitting at £119.95.

Any reason you want floorstanders for rears?

    Hi Chris,

I move around a lot and don't have the ability to hang the speakers when i move. So floor-standers are prob the best for me to have. I would get floor-standers for both front and rear if I could afford them. I think i should finalise on the Tannoy. It is good enough for what I want. The wood finish from the following package is nice and will suit most places I live.
    http://www.richersounds.com/package/speakers/speaker-packages/pah011381

I can choose then to leave the floor-standers as front or rear speakers, depending on where i am living. I can get the http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/yamaha/rxv373/yama-rxv373-blk also as this Amp will allow me to watch movies through my computer and play music also. Am I missing anything here or will this system do what I want?

How much will all this cost including delivery to Galway Ireland?

    Hi G,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Fair enough on the floorstanders, plus you can never go wrong with floorstanders :)

The Tannoy pack is a good option and would be grand enough for swapping the floorstanders to rears as the bookshelves pack a nice punch.

Unfortunately the Tannoy pack is currently a in-store only purchase so would need to be collected here in Belfast.  There is no problem getting the order in to the store and reserved for you.

For the amp and speakers you'd be looking at £569.90.

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Chris,

That is unfortunate about the in-store only purchase. I will not be in Belfast for some time. Is there any way of sending this close to Galway or Dublin?

Do you have the system in stock? Chris was quoting me (see below) 569.90 sterling which is €676.93. Is this the final quote?

    G,

£569 / €689.99 is the best price we can offer on that Tannoy 5.1 system including the V4 Floorstanders / VR rears / VC centre / SFX subwoofer and the Yamaha RXV373 AV receiver.

As ever we are happy to price beat if you can find a cheaper price!

That is unfortunate about the in-store only purchase. I will not be in Belfast for some time. Is there any way of sending this close to Galway or Dublin?
Guscat - at the moment, if we have the stock, there is no problem shipping this system to your address,

Apologies for the late response and keep us posted if we can assist,

    Hi John,

    That sounds good.
Do you have the system in stock? Chris was quoting me (see below) 569.90 sterling which is €676.93. Is this the final quote?

    Thanks,
    G.

I would get floor-standers for both front and rear if I could afford them. I think i should finalise on the Tannoy. It is good enough for what I want. The wood finish from the following package is nice and will suit most places I live.

Fair enough on the floorstanders, plus you can never go wrong with floorstanders smile.png

    Chris

    Keep us posted,

    Thanks John,

Does this price include delivery to Galway? When can you send and how do I pay?
    Guscat,

delivery to Galway would be £19.95 ( Its a lot of kit!, Floorstanders, Sub, amp, and 2 sets of speakers) - we are expecting most of your kit in the maple finish on Friday, and we ship next working day to most counties across Ireland.

If you would like to order please just drop us a PM or a mail to sales@richersounds.ie with your contact details and I'll get one of the guys to give you a shout to get your delivery sorted,

Thanks again and give us a shout if we can assist in any way,
