    Hi all,

    Buying a 2008 car.

Usually, a 2008 car will be NCTed in 2010, 2012 and then 2014??

So if a dealer is now selling a 2008 car with 2 years NCT meaning it won't need to be NCTed again until 2015, how can this be possible?

Is it an indication that the car is an import??

It would need to be NCT'ed first in 2012, and then again in 2014. If he's said 2015 he's either got it wrong, or it's a typo (if on an ad). Either way it'll need to be NCT'ed sometime in 2014.

It could have been imported in 2013.

It would have been more than four years old at time of import, so it's NCT due date would be the date of registration in Ireland.

If it was tested and it passed in 2013 then it would have been given a certificate until 2015.

yes, almost certainly an import. NCT date now depends on date of registration HERE rather than date of first registration

That's not completely correct. It depends on how old the car is at time of import. If the car is less than four years old then the NCT due date = date of 1st registration in country of origin + four years.

If the car is greater than four years old then the NCT due date = date of 1st registration in Ireland.
