I'm looking at using argus car hire but am reading mixed reviews!

Any experience renting a car from Malaga for ten days?

    Any recommendation?

    Cheers

from personal experience, and listening to the guy from moneysavingexpert on 5 live a while ago, the latest thing in spain is that they get you to buy the whole tank of petrol.
usually it's a deposit that you get back when you return full, but there, you buy the full tank at the start.
i think auto europe is the only one at the moment that still gives you the option of not buying the petrol, so if you don't think you'll use the whole tank, and want to return full, then check them out.
if not, travelsupermarket.com will go through all the comparison sites, including argus.

argus aren't a rental company, just a comparison site.

I used a place called malaga car across the road from the airport. Found them really good.

Got caught with the full tank thing in gran canaria, only catch is you pay a little bit more for the fuel and return it empty.

Argus are only brokers. They don't rent cars.

I dont remember the name of the company, ill have to check the mail.
Edit: I used Goldcar for my two trips to Malaga. Both times we were pretty happy with them. Cars were pretty decent, golf tdi and ibiza (run away from them). Last year they were one of tbe cheapest which i could find from known car rental companies. For sure stay away from hertz or avis, you will pay a lot for renting car. I dunno how it is now.
For 5 days we paid around 300+ € with additional insurance and no full tank at returning the car, unfortunate i dont remember the cost at second visit.

No, I'd say that's good value for the UK. OP, I have it on good authority that car rental in Spain is almost ridiculously cheap these days - go direct to a few of the usual Airport "front-desk" outfits like Europcar and Avis and the like, and see what they'll do for you.

It depends from market, in spain for the same amount of days with the similar car hertz wanted 500 €. Another story. Poland, car for ten days would cost around 600 €, price from two years ago. Germany with additional insurance to drive in Poland 490 €.
    Edit:
    The prices went really down...
8 days in september. Goldcar opel corsa or similar is 63 €, the same in hertz 150 € at airport, online 130 €.

Another thumbs up for Malagacar, many times in Spain and only use them now. No surprises and good cars.

Yeah, I had booked a bargain basement car and ended up with a new Ibiza 1.9 tdi with 20kms on it.
Didn't pre book or anything, just booked it from an Internet cafe as we were staying in Malaga one night.
The cars the big names had in the airport were all basic black bumper mazda 2s and they were 3 times the price,

Do you have to get a bus out to the car with malagacar? Or are they in the aipport?

The is a frequent shuttle bus right (15 mins) outside the airport and their office is literally one minute away. No hassle at all.

Did you take out the excess insurance from them (malagacar) or did you buy it online from another company? Would there be any hassle if you did?

I got the extra insurance from them, and added a satnav on the day, didn't pre request either of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,237 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

I declined the extra insurance, like I always do, paid an extra €300 deposit that was refunded within 2 days.

Another fan of malagcacar here. Once you've used them once, you can contact them to become a VIP member to get additional discounts.

Was reading a few bad reviews about the mini bus pick up, I will have a toddler buggy and the other half that could be a problem.

Other than that they look good.

I've never had an issue with the minibus, very frequent and I have arrived very early and very late. Plenty of room for luggage, buggies, etc. And the depot is really very close, 1 minute ride.

Flying out to Malaga in the morning and just thought of renting a car. I done a search in 25plus.ie's car hire section and got a polo for €54 for the 8 days. No excess and all the usual insurance (CDW, TW and TP, however liable for glass and tires) Since the price is that good, what charges can I get expect to be hit with if I pick this up? Just the full tank of petrol is all I can see. (Booking is been handled through car trawler so unsure as to who is actually offering the car)

Where are you picking it up from?

Car hire is cheap at this time of year, even when I was going it was a good price. 18th sept.

Just make sure your insurance is insured. (Excess).
Check the car for damage before you head off.
Other than that you got a good deal.

Ps: I ended up getting a mini bus with other members of my family as I didn't need the extra stress as I was going over to get married.
