When I was in Aus I used to pay $10 in to a pub to watch WC 2002 Ireland qualifiers. Places would be packed out.
But that was before floodlights in lansdowne so games were during the day here and night time there.

On the subject, the article (and other articles i've read) make it sound like it was just your average joe-die hard soccer fan. Reality is, he probably is some business man with his head on his shoulders who sold a niche to make a few aussie dollars

Fair enough. I paid to see the home qualifiers against Portugal and Holland which were both afternoon games for some reason.

All qualifiers seem to be at night now.
