I was thinking the very same myself today. Bought a few ewes in mart. I looked up the dept of ag site and it says no tags should be removed anymore. It didn't give an example of multi tag numbers. I just wrote in the no of sheep and the dispatch number. Will try ring Dvo office on Monday to clarify.

The whole sheep tag issue is one confusing mess in my opinion.

second crop should have EID tags , so they keep them for life, just update your registery as described

if you bought privately you should got the pink copy of the dispatch document from the seller and you need to send this to your DVO , not necessary if bought in the mart

I Think you need to read your NSIS booklet

D.5 Notification of Permanent Farm-to-Farm Movements
Where sheep are purchased directly from another flock keeper (not through a mart) the purchaser is required to notify this movement to the local office of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) within 7 days for recording on the AIM Sheep Movement Database.
Farm to farm movements should be notified as set out in the steps below.
    1. Farmer A sells/moves sheep to Farmer B and presents him/her with the white and pink copies of the properly completed dispatch/ movement document from his/her (Farmer A’s) holding.
    2. Farmer B (Purchaser or destination holding) enters his/her flock number in the proper place on the white and pink copies of the dispatch/movement document.
    3. Purchaser sends pink copy to the local DVO

@OP just re read your post. all the info is in the NSIS booklet found here

sorry, one correction i have to make to my op is that they were 3rd crop i bought not second crop, so they were born before the eid tags came in. i always thought too that buyer only got white copy, that is all i got both times too.
so if ye both bought 3rd crop ewes last year and this year did ye retag them with a tag of your own?

Had a farmer buying rams yesterday who insisted on getting the pink copy as he got a 3% penalty on his SFP for not sending in 2 pink copies this year.
    a bit harsh I thought

if they have 1 old type tag (white tag), you re tag with your own tags and record same in the register, if tthey have the 2 yellow tags they keep these for life , you need to chase up the pink copy and send it away, if you and the seller have the same DVO , he can send it in , if different DVO's it need to go to your own DVO, should have been done within 7 days.

not really, if we want the system to work, every one will have apply to the rule book,

had an inspection sometime ago, and these guys really know what to look for when going through the register

in fairness if they see you are making an effort, they will allow some lee way for erros and omissions , inspector told me 1 guy had full mouthed ewes that were never tagged & he was doubtful if they were all home bred

But the original question is. When that are 3 yr old and already have tags on both years not electronic but from different farms. What do u do with them or record them in the book.

stand corrected, wasnt what i was doing, used to fill in all buyers details there and then and sent it off. some of the pink docs could be in the wrong dvo!!
better to know now rather than an inspector telling me!

Why not just have one central location dealing with it instead of this DVO or that DVO, unnecessary complication.

Why not have a live online system to transfer sheep from flock to flock?
