RS Turbo came out at the end of 86 with the updated nose so that one isn't an original. It's one that's been modded, probably by having an RS Turbo engine fitted. It's been left in a shed for 13 years so probably needs a lot more work than a clutch cable. What did exist was an RS 1600 which came out at the end of 84 IIRC.

€1500 is probably a bit too much for it.

Original RS turbos in LHD (with a newer nose) in decent condition cost around €5000 in Germany and that and more in the UK.

I seen that on donedeal its been there a while & I avoided it as it looks like a ex henhouse..

PS it looks like an xr3 with rs rurbo transplant..the colour really suits it nice change from all the white rs..

PS the rs1600i mk3 was actually non turboed FYI;)

I'm not 100% sure of the launch dates of the RS1600, XR3, XR3i and RS turbos but I know that the mk3 Escort was launched in late 1980 or early1981 so the car is not NCT exempt. Judging by the interior, the car has been "messed with" and all series 1 RS turbos were white. Also good luck finding an uncracked dash. A good look under the battery tray, rear suspension mounts and bulkhead would be needed. Also, the RST had a limo in the gearbox and different front suspension arrangement.

As an aside, Boreham did launch a turbo kit for the XR3 prior to the RS turbo. They ran a rally championship with it and the RS Turbo road cars used the same basic kit on the XR3i. Also, I seem to recall that there was a works RST rally program in 1985 (or 1986, I'm not sure but I think its 1985). The best result was a fourth place finish in the West Cork Rally in March of that year, I think.

The original XR3 and then XR3i were both MK3 Escorts.

im assuming this is a converted xr3 originally as cartell, motorcheck & motortax office all confirm its a 1597cc black 3dr 1983 ford escort...

i love mk3 rs:cool: have much better-tougher lines than the mk4 for me Id have been all over this car if it hadn't gone to far to make it a viable resto project for my own budget

    Ahh.Ok.

Was it the same for the Fiesta? Was there an XR2i Mk2 Fiesta, or was it till the MK3 before the injection version came out?

    Yep..just carb on the mk2 xr2& no injection until mk3 xr2i,rs turbo, & rs1800i were the worthwhile injection mk3s;)

So thats maybe where I got confused. Had a 1990 XR2i and I can remember a friend having a MK2 fiesta XR2. I must have thought the same went with the Escorts

The Mk3 came out in '81 and XR3 was available from the start as carb version. Then half way through '82 it became the XR3i with 5 speed and altered geometry. The early XR3's have very obvious positive front camber. The RS1600i came a little later, in white, black and metallic blue IIRC. The engine featured solid lifters I think ?

The RS Turbo came as 1985 model, so Sept/Oct '84 with a different grille and bodycoloured kit.

Both RS models featured different suspension mounting points and adjustable front and rear track/camber.

That KZS car is an '84 reg, most likley an XR3i

Yeah, Caspian Blue, also came in Stratos Silver, Graphite Grey and Sunburst Red (looks horrible with the black decals IMO).

I came very close to buying a Silver one sometime around '88 or '89 still regret not getting it but the insurance was astronomical, probably would have killed myself in it anyway! :o
