New Irish film coming on October 4th. Reminds me a little of the His & Hers documentary about Irish women a few years ago.

    Classic.

No it's actually a beautiful film. Although it has perhaps the best toilet joke ever in it, told by a cavan publican.

It's very, very slight and insubstantial but enjoyable nonetheless. The decision not to show the other side of these old pubs - that they can be full of all ages on a Saturday night - was a mistake though imo.

Yeah, could easily have been an hour long once-off on RTE1 instead of a film you pay ten quid to see. There are some funny interviews (mostly with the guy from Cavan) but there's not a huge amount of substance to this. Enjoyable enough, although a bit boring in parts

Ugh, I don't think I could stomach watching this. If there's one thing we don't need in this country right now it's a documentary celebrating pub culture, which is *sniff* *sniff* dying off. Like so much of Irish culture I can only assume it's made-for-export. So no doubt the um "Irish disapora" living all over the world will love it. I mean, never mind the loud, obnoxious young people, how about all the sad sacks who have wasted their lives away in these hovels? The whole lifeline thing is bollox. The reason they are lonely and need a lifeline is usually because of their drinking.

Sorry but I've always found these places depressing.

I think that's part of the point. A lot of the film shows people looking quite sad and depressed. I found it really really sad in parts. But for some reason it was also enjoyable mainly because it was quite nostalgic. That made it at good experience for me.
