OK, I have 7mb DSL connection courtesy of Vodafone.

I am using a Belkin F5D7632-4 ADSL modem/router (configured ONLY as a modem, manual available from here), wired to a Draytek Vigor 2910VG router. The analogue phone that I have then connected to the Draytek is an Interquartz 98393HS, Manual available here.

I've attached a couple of screenshots to see how I have the Draytek configured..

One thing that I don't fully understand is 'Opening Ports' and I'm not certain on my configurations, I was reading this post here which basically says:
Note: If your DrayTek Vigor router is a 'V' model (i.e. has built-in VoIP FXS ports) then the built-in ports will also use SIP port 5060 by default, and will have priority over external devices using the same port. You will need to use different SIP Port for each device.

So I assume I needed to open ports 5160 (for FX1) and 5260 (for FX2)?

OK so on to my problem, when lifting the handset I can hear a dialing tone. However whenever I dial a number (for example my own landline) nothing happens. In fact it's silent, almost as if the phone is wanting me to dial more digits!

My 1st (default) SIP account with SIPGate has £5 credit on it and my 2nd account FreeSpeech has €1 credit for testing purposes but I cannot seem to dial anybody.

    Can somebody please assist me!

I also have the Vigor2910VG, only issue I see between your config and mine on the screenshots are on SIP Account 1 and 2 you have, SIP port 5160 and Domain/Realm sipgate.co.uk:5060 in my case I do not have a port on the Domain/Realm, only on the SIP Port, also I did not need to do any port forwarding as the configuration is within the router, what device is the IP address 192.168.1.2?

I think you probably need to do a port forwarding on the Belkin F5D7632 to the IP address on the Draytek.

The default sip port is 5060. You should not need to forward any ports because you are registering. Your screenshots are showing as registered so it is authenticating successfully with both providers

When you ring the line does it ring and do you get audio when its answered?

Will the Belkin set up in 'Bridge' mode?

I have my Vigor connected to a modem in Bridge+NAT mode which means the Vigor is getting its own IP address from Eircom.

As said previously .... no need to open any ports when using a phone connected to the Vigor.

You might also try pressing the # key after the last digit of the phone number.

You should try using the full international numbering for the phone call, if you have not set up anything for it in Dial Plan - Digit Map.

Regarding the SIP ports, I found a page online (somewhere? but I can't find it again) and I copied their settings which were also configured like that. Ironically one of SIP Gate's employees, James (a very helpful guy) was also trying to help me. He dialed in to my PC using TeamViewer and these settings seemed fine to him.

Yes that certainly does make sense port-forwarding 5060,5160 and 5260 to the Vigor router (192.168.1.2) I will do that now.

This page is similiar (the bottom image shows a similiar way to what I used) but I cannot for the life of me find the actual page that I was working from before.

If I ring my Sip Gate national number (0845) from my mobile I get "The number you've called is not reconised, please check the number and dial again" If I ring from our land-line I get "Please hangup and try again later".

If I ring any number from my SIP Gate phone it just seems to hang, almost like I've dialed digits short and it's still waiting for me to input more numbers? I've tried dialing normally and with the full country code too.

There is only two time's that I've ever heard the phone ring, the first was when I was test dialing from port 1 to port 2 as described here. The second was when James (from SIP Gate) called it, seemingly it worked then for an incoming call.

Seemingly on Page 25 of the Belkin manual I could set it up as '1483 Bridged' mode, obviously I would have to have an experiment with this. To be honest this method seems a little more complicated to me than what I am already trying to do here now? However I will indeed look into this if I don't get anywhere with what I'm currently doing, so thank-you for the suggestion. Of course if you have any tips for doing this I would be very greatful.

I've tried putting the hash '#' key at the end of the number dialed, unfortunately it's still waiting.

Other things that I've tried are:

    - Disabling ALG (but it was already disabled) by following these steps.

    - Setting up QoS as described here.

    - Read a lot of these posts to see if there is anything helpful.

    - I've also been looking at this page for reference, and added the SIP URL as per listed here.

One thing I am giving great thought to currently is setting up the DMZ in my Belkin modem/router and just passing everything through to the Vigor (I don't actually know if it's already doing this? it's currently configured as Modem only then I'd imagine it is already doing so?)

0845 are national uk numbers so dialling from Ireland would be including the country code 0044 845...

Again I don't see why you are forwarding ports since you're registering. Please be aware of open port scanners etc that may cause it to ring at ungodly hours. I would remove any additional settings on the router and reset the voip device and start over. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to setup.

Try to disable SPI on your router

What have you put in for the dial plan? This may be your issue.

I configured my Sipgate account and done some testing calling out to uk free phone 08001691458 and work did not try calling in, not sure if you can dial 0845 from Ireland.

Here are my settings, no need to do any port forwarding on the Draytek, I connect mine to the UPC modem/router

I also include a screenshot of the Phone settings as might help.

Thanks for the info Mr. G - Regarding the English country code, I have been communicating with FreeSpeech (which is registered in both England and Ireland independently and has both .co.uk and .ie domain names) They give us Irish customers a 7 digit extension number, but they give the English an 11 digit 0844 number. In this particular case when calling the English 0844 number you DON'T include in the English country code +44 as it will not connect. I agree that you are probably correct regarding the majority of numbers but maybe this isn't the case for ALL numbers (just for everybodies info!)

Regarding the port forwarding, I totally agree and today I have reworked ALL of my settings. There are no longer ANY port forwards going on (hurray!)

As for the dial plan, that looks scary and complicated. Basically I'm afraid to touch that! At the minute I don't think I have to as everything is currently working.

Thanks for your helpful screenshots Nava, as I was saying to Mr. G I've now reworked ALL of my own settings and you can see my screenshots attached. Everything is now working but I can't really understand why I didn't just change the Domain/Realm and Proxy details before. Everybody was telling me that these settings were different to their own and for some reason I battered away ignorantly!

Anyway I've tried and re tried many settings and it's taken up most of the day. I managed to get everything working in two seperate scenarios and think I'm happiest with the one that I am currently running.

Belkin (Modem ONLY Mode) --> Vigor (Modem/Router Mode - PPPoE) --> SIP Phone

This is actually the same way as I had it previously setup (although this way works)

A warm thank-you to everybody who has contributed to this thread and helped me out. It is very appreciated! :-)
