Phnom Penh Cambodia

Will be visiting Phnom Penh in November for a few days, before travelling to other parts of Cambodia.

First time in Cambodia, though I know other parts of South East Asia fairly well. Really looking forward to trip, anyone I know who have spend time there find the people and and the countryside fascinating. Particularly the waterways and the Tonle Sap Lake and further north.

I am looking to book accommodation in Phnom Penh for a few nights to do the usual must do sights and then travel by boat north. Looking for comfortable room, dont need pool or other luxuries. Typical 3 star hotel or guest house would do fine. I have checked with Trip Advisor but am a bit bewildered so looking for help!
Want to stay as central as possible, perhaps between Sisowath Quay and main pub areas. Not too worried about noise as long as room is quiet when you close the door!

Any help would be much appreciated. Also would love to hear from anyone who has taken the fast ferry north from Phnom Penh.

We stayed in The Quay hotel. It's amazing, but not the cheapest for the region but worth it. Check out prices and see what you think. We splashed out after a good week on the road staying in crappy places and wanted to really treat ourselves. Also because their sister hotel, the Correspondents' Club was booked up (http://www.fcccambodia.com/phnom_penh/boutique-hotel.php).

The breakfast in the Quay is really great, and I'm assuming in the FCC, too.

Stayed in the Indochine 2 a couple of months ago, $20 a night for a decent room with A/C. By no means luxurious but very central and clean

    Thanks Graham.

I see there is an Indochine and an Indochine2. The latter looks better.
    Looks a possibility.

The price and location is what got us in. Hotels in PP were a lot more than we were used to after spending the previous month in Vietnam!

3 Nights costs about €75 for double with window. I suppose not too bad for central location incl breakfast.

Just a quick update. Back from Cambodia just over a week ago. Had a wonderful holiday. Would recommend to anyone. The people really make the place, all hotels I stayed in were excellent. And local good draught beer only $0.50 !

Thanks to all on this forum for help..
