BMX sizing

Looking for a steer. Looking to get a BMX for my son. He is 4'6". Do they come in a standard size once you hit a certain level or are there different frames as you get bigger. Just seen a lot of BMXs around that look quite small but all ages seem to be riding the same size. Thanks Darren
