Is there an alternative to Febreeze?

I don't know....I think it's kind of an overpriced item. Maybe I have the understanding of it wrong but is it just a glorified air freshener for sofas and curtains?

I have a couch, a couple of chairs and two old sets of curtains that are in a rental house that need freshening up but I would like to think that for €4+ Febreeze has some kind of anti-bacterial properties.

Basically, can anyone suggest a fabric/sofa spray that will freshen up and kill bacteria all in one for couches, chairs, curtains, rugs etc.

For the chairs/sofas, sprinkle them liberally with (dry) baking soda, let it sit for a while then vacuum it off and see what you think. Baking soda is cheap, so if you're not happy with it, you haven't lost much. Baking soda will do for pretty much any surface you can vacuum.

Is it possible to wash the curtains? The main problems with washing curtains is a) the possibility they might shrink and b) the curse of drying/ironing them. If there's a little bit of room for them to shrink, do them on a cold/30 wash, then get them straight out of the machine onto a line - folding carefully if you must, but try get them as flat as possible on the line (to reduce wrinkling). If they're net curtains, just put them in a bath of cold water with some bleach/aeriel whitener, let them soak for a while, then wring them gently and hang outside. Hang them back on the window when still a little damp so that they'll fall nicely.

Maybe mention to the landlord beforehand that you want to wash the curtains, just in case.

Steam clean the fabric sofa and curtains.

I use my H20 steam mop every now and then to give the curtains a quick blast. Also use it on the 2 rugs.

    Does a good job.

There is a version of Febreze in Lidl, not sure how much it is, but it isn't €4.
Can't think of the name either, Was one of those W5 products or whatever they are called.
