I was getting paid JSA every week in a post office I selected. There was never any problem and I was happy with the situation as there are never any long huge ques at this one. Last week social welfare wrote out to me to say I am to collect my weekly payment at my nearest post office and not the one I've been collecting from which is 2 miles away. I called the local office and asked why this has been done. My local social welfare office said they received instruction from head office to move my payment to nearest post office and that there was nothing local office could do about it. I am unhappy with this decision as I'll have to que in very long ques at my nearest post office. The local social welfare office said other people's payments have been moved to their nearest post office also and that I am no special case. What is going on?

I don't know what's going on there on why there moving your payment but your bests bet is to ask the post office assistant when is it least busy to come in. They know when it's the busiest during the day and when it's not as busy.

There is a 3 day window in which to collect your payment from the PO

Thanks guys... Trouble is the post office is choco bloc solid everyday with others collecting their payments and there's always only one person working behind the counter in the PO. I hate people knowing I'm on JSA, the shame of it is terrible and having to que up like some scrounger for all to see.

I feel your pain especially in a small town but I may have to go on JSA myself next year thanks to the government abolishing the State Pension Transition at end of this year.

In fairness I can see why the DSP would like people to collect payment from their local PO especially in rural areas but can also see the other side's view as well.
