Who was more obnoxious?

    Ali or Mayweather?

Just to qualify, I like aspects of both their personalities but it can't be denied they both had/have obnoxious aspects too.

This tends to get overlooked in Ali due to the whole "rose tinted glasses" phenomenon which happens as time goes by. I'd side with Mayweather being more obnoxious but it's a close call IMO.

Despite being a huge Ali fan, I would appreciate where you're coming from if you were saying that Ali was no angel.... but "obnoxious"? I'm sorry that's waaaaaaaay over the top.

His treatment of Joe Frazier (who was a gentleman in my eyes) always bothered me and I always had sympathy for Joe when he spoke badly of Ali, cos if somebody had treated me the same way I would have that lingering resentment also. But, by the same token, one of the things those who don't like Ali always quote is his constant baiting of Ernie Terrell with "what's my name" during their fight. I have sympathy for Ali here as Terrell refused to call him by his chosen name instead constantly referring to him by the name he had rejected. Tough sh!t Ernie. What goes around comes around.

I'm most definitely not a fan of Mayweather, but I wouldn't go so far to call him "obnoxious" either. He's most defintely annoying and quite boring, but he has certain good points too. His problem is that he lacks the charm and wit that Ali had and those two traits are really what made Ali so loved worldwide, along with his amazing career.

If you want to talk about a truely obnoxious boxer, then discuss Adrian Broner.

Ali could be cruel at times, as can anyone. But obnoxious isn't a word I'd use to describe him. Now, Guerrero's dad, and Garcia's dad, those two are the dictionary definitions of obnoxious. PBF is a wee bit obnoxious, and he is crass and tacky.

Obnoxious is not the correct word for Ali. I understand what you are getting at, and can appreciate how time has tinted some of his more ''inappropriate comments / rants''.

To be obnoxious - We are talking Angel Garcia.

Ali was a straight up racist. And before someone says "but he's black". Yep, black people can be racist as well.

Behind the scenes his hatred of white people, mainly during his time with Malcolm X was really disgusting.

However trading his racism out of the equation, the guy had the gift of the gab and definitely used it to his and boxings advantage.

You could say he was obnoxious, I wouldn't disagree, but Mayweather is far worse imo. Mayweather is a scripted obnoxious wanker. He hasn't been blessed with the silver tongue that Ali had, but he tries to portray himself as a modern day Ali. It's quite pathetic to see really. Broner is going down the same road, another wannabe

Ali had charm and displayed that on some if not most public appearances. Floyd has none.

Scripted obnoxious .. is a perfect description. That thug persona is ridiculous.

Surley Hector "macho" Camacho (rip) would be right up there with his obnoxiousness.
He always seem to play the villian leading up to fights and his persona seem to help him in selling tickets for his fights.
A true warrior in the ring no less.

Obnoxious? Yes. A warrior? More a runner and spoiler. The word warrior is bandied about too much. Holyfield was a warrior, JCC was a warrior, Gatti was a warrior.

More so during his time with Elijah Muhammad after he cut ties with Malcolm X.

Agree with what was said about Broner, he is obnoxious! He is also boring and extremely cringey.

"Money" is plain boring, he has the same spiel the whole time and his group of lap dogs around him are pathetic, the only one who never bought into all that **** was his dad, that's why they clashed over the years.

Ali was a pioneer, he had the gift of the gab, made fun of people and created a buzz everywhere he went simply by his words and presence. No lamborghinis's, no rolex's, no entourage and no Louis Vuitton!

I also agree with the point about his treatment of Frasier, however I feel Ali simply overstepped the line there.

The bad thing about Ali is how it has spawned so many wannabes with their crap trash talk, reality is nobody has the gift of gab like Ali and unless you are a really really good talker then trash talking always sounds cringy and rehearsed, Broner is the worst trash talker i have honestly ever seen absolutly **** in every aspect neither intresting or slightly funny the man is a total fool

I think Paulie Mallignaggi is an excellent trash talker, he owned Broner in every exchange with him. He had some great points and Broner was up in a heap like a stuttering, mumbling arsehole the whole time. Really enjoyed the build up to their fight! Especially when Broner was trying to talk over Paulie at the Presser while Paul was at the podium screaming "shadduuuuuuup"!

I find Broner very very embarrassing. I find it difficult and uncomfortable listening to him. It's similar to when I hear Stacy Solomon (former X Factor contestant) being interviewed.
