    2. Opt in to Unlimited Calls by texting ‘JOIN TALK’ to 1744 or Opt in to Unlimited Texts by texting ‘JOIN TEXT’ to 1744
    3. Wait for confirmation sms before topping up to ensure you gain the Clubcard discount.

Wow, €15 per month is the best flat rate deal for unlimited calls to Irish landlines and mobiles going, beating the O2 'Freedom Talk' bundle by about €50 per year (assuming 500 minutes usage per month).

If you combine the two deals — but you'd have to spend a fair bit in Tesco to accumulate €5 worth of vouchers per month... — then it could be a great deal, combined with a 1Gb 30-day data add-on @ €6.99/month.

Even better than the Guido?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Porting over to tescmobile as I have a very poor signal in my home, best signal I've got thus far.In addition the 1GB add-on is unbearable value.

To get €5 in Tesco vouchers per month you'd have to spend €500 per month in Tesco. That works out at €125 per week in groceries, not a massive amount ..... or you could spend absolutely nothing in Tesco, switch to a Tesco Credit Card and spend €1000 per month. Even Lidl takes credit cards now.

In practice though you'd spend a lot less than €500 to get the €5 voucher because Tesco send you extra points coupons, there's extra points offers on certain items in-store, and on Bord Gais payments, phone recycling etc ....

€5 Tesco deals voucher plus €10 unlimited text addon = €15 Unlimited calls and texts :)

By texting to join the Clubcard Text or Talk I assume you are then opting out of the double/triple credit for life offers?

    PS
Please note that as of 28th of August 2013 Double credit will no long be offered with any new Tesco mobile top up or Pay as you go plan. All Tesco mobile customers that join Tesco mobile before the 28th of August 2013 will continue to enjoy the benefits of Double Credit until such time as they choose to switch to one of our new plans. Once they have switched from the Double credit plan they will not be in a position to return to this plan. The following terms and conditions will still apply to customers who choose to stay on the Double Credit

Plus they have also increased their standard call charge from 20 to 25c and texts from 10 to 13c. And the free 15Gb of data with the €25 top up seems to be gone as well although those who have used it once (as I have) have it for life but again you would I'd imagine be opting out of it by opting into these plans.

So not uniformly a good option of existing subscribers.

Oh yeah good spot, pretty sneaky, maybe this offer is to lure people off the Triple Credit Offer. I notice they changed the wording to "Triple Credit for the Life of the Tarriff" I thought it used to say Triple Credit for Life: http://www.tescomobile.ie/terms/tcs-triple-credit.aspx

No more double credit either if you are a new subscriber

Yeah. For existing PAYG customers it may not be that good a deal. Especially for those who use their phone for tethering to use the 15Gb of free data with the €25 or €30 top ups. To my mind that 15Gb of data package trumps all the rest, plus I am on triple credit so I get €75 of calls (up to €25 of which I can carry forward after the 30 days) plus free texts, 15Gb of data and free Tesco to Tesco calls.

For existing customers this new package may not be such a good deal, particularly for those who topped up by €25 at least once to get the 15Gb of data for life deal. A contract data package for 15Gb will cost you €20-22 with the mobile networks and even Vodafone only offers 10Gb for the same money whereas it comes free with the €25 Tesco Mobile top up!!

PS existing customers retain the cheaper 20c call and 10c text out of bundle charge rates.

Good deal though for someone looking to get unlimited calls for €15 a month (or for a €5 clubcard voucher) if that is what they mostly use their phone for.

I assume that we get all these unlimited calls while still keeping the 15EUR top up or the 15 EUR top up is completely taken from the account in order to avail of this offer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

Also it's not clear if this new offer uses your top up, or if your top up balance remains the same. SNAP! That's what I was wondering too!

I imagine you still have the €15 for text and data plus out of bundle calls.

A person would have to be mad to opt for the unlimited text offer as that is already an add on option for a tenner. So for €15 you can have free calls and texts with €5 left over.

I just tried subscribing to it and got a response - "Optin unsuccessful". I'm currently on the €10 capped plan and have a club card registered. Maybe it's that I'm already on the capped plan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭kn

It really depends on what each person is using their phone for whether this offer suits them or not. For example I got my elderly, non techie, mum onto Tesco Mobile for the free calls between us (it was also her first mobile as she ditched the landline with the cutting to the Household package in the last budget that would see her paying €18 rental per billing period + calls whereas it was previously rental free). So this package will work out for her as she can get free calls for a month with the €15 top up (or a €5 clubcard voucher) and also use her balance for the 1c/minute UK landline calls which she makes good use of as well. She does not text.

However for me hanging onto the free 15Gb of data, including tethering, with the €25 top up plus triple credit and free texts is certainly not a package I am going to be giving up anytime soon.

    Its horses for courses really.

    Hi All

To address a few points raised here on the new Plans

    - You join the new offers by texting "JOIN TALK" or "JOIN TEXT" to 1744
    - If your ClubCard is registered with Tesco Mobile you will get Unlimited Calls on the TALK plan and Unlimited Texts on the TEXT plan when you topup by €15 or more.
    - If you do not have a ClubCard registered you get these benefits for a topup of €20 or more.
    - Free Talk or Text lasts for 30 days. If you do not topup again by the minimum amount after the 30 days expire call rates revert to standard rates. When you topup again you receive your free Talk or Text calls for the next 30 days.
    - You keep your topup and it can be used for all call types including purchasing bundles, international and roaming.
    - Register your ClubCard with Tesco Mobile by texting CLUBCARD followed by a space and then your ClubCard number without spaces to 1744 e.g. CLUBCARD 6666555566665555
    - Existing customers can join the new offers but cannot go back to their previous Pay As You Go plan.
    - Existing customers can stay on their current plans and continue to receive their current benefits including the recent €15 and €25 topup offers with Double Credit.
    - Tesco ClubCard Deals apply to the plan i.e. €5 Deals voucher can be converted to €15 topup and you can get FREE Talk or Text for 30 days when you topup with the supplied code. see Tesco Mobile Clubcard Deals
    - You can leave the offer by texting "LEAVE TALK" or "LEAVE TEXT" to 1744. This means that on your next topup of €15 (Clubcard customers) / €20 (others) or more you will not get free Talk or Text
    - You can move between the Talk or Text offers by texting "JOIN TALK" or "JOIN TEXT". This means that on your next topup of €15 (Clubcard customers) / €20 (others) or more you get the benefit of the offer you have last joined.
    - We plan to launch a 5GB data bundle in next 2 weeks
    - Yes, this is a Pay as You Go offer only
    - Free Tesco Mobile to Tesco Mobile texts apply on all topups of €5 or more (all plans)
    - Free Tesco Mobile to Tesco Mobile calls and texts apply on all topups of €10 or more (all plans)

Please contact us in the Tesco Mobile Talk To Forum if there are any questions

    regards
    Paul

No. The 'old standard rates' apply to all pre 28th August customers no matter what plans you opt into.

Thats not my understanding of the new plans.

This - from Paul's post, is my understanding:

"Existing customers can join the new offers but cannot go back to their previous Pay As You Go plan.
    - Existing customers can stay on their current plans and continue to receive their current benefits including the recent €15 and €25 topup offers with Double Credit."

That, to me, confirms that you lose your old rates of 20c & 10c if you take up the new plan. You will now have to pay 25c & 13c for o-o-b calls & texts.

Fair enough Paul but that is not clear from the website where it states that the New and Old standard rates depend on whether you are a pre or post 28th August customer - it makes no reference to what plan you choose to be on which is irrelevant in any case as the standard rates do not apply to plans, only out of bundle charges.

This is what the small print says under the 'Old Standard Rate Charges':
To all Republic of Ireland networks made whilst in the Republic of Ireland. Above rates apply to Tesco mobile Pay as you go cutomers who joined the network before 28th August 2013.

To me that reads that the 'old standard rates charges' apply to all pre 28th August customers with no distinction as to what plan you choose to opt into. Can you re-check your information Paul and amend your website to reflect that if it is the case.

    Seems like a good plan.

So for €17 per month you get:
    - Unlimited calls to mobiles.
    - Unlimited calls to landlines.
    - Unlimited texts any network (€10 a month add on)
    - 1GB Data (€7 a month add on)

This compares to 48months €20 The Don plan:
    - Unlimited calls to mobiles.
    - 60 minutes to landlines
    - Unlimited texts any network
    - 5GB data

So the Don is €3 more expensive, but gets 5GB of data, but losses out on landline calls. Looks like 48months have some good competition, it will be interesting to see how much Tescos 5GB add on ends up costing. I think 48months will need to improve the landline calls element of their plan to stay competitive.

One question I'd have about Tesco is how top-ups work. I assume you can only top-up by amounts of €5, so either €15 or €20. So in order to get the €17 deal above I assume you have to top-up by €20, leaving €3 credit behind.

Would this €3 credit carry over to the next month? Could you just top-up by €15 the second month, combine it with the €3 from the previous month and then spend it on all the add-ons for €17 (leaving you with €1 to carry over to the next month).

Anyway, good to see some nice competition.

There are two other benefits of Tesco Mobile:
    - They support international data roaming, even if it is expensive, 48 months not even possible.
    - They international calls are very cheap
    - 50 free international web texts per month (48months don't do webtexts).

    Two advantages 48months have:
    - Their excellent EU call package, which allows you to receive calls from Ireland for free while travelling in the EU for €3 (and gives you 10 minutes of free calls)
    - It is simpler then this Tesco setup, 48months you just top-up, with this Tesco deal, you have to sign-up to three different things and also manage how much you are topping up by every month. I'd think many people would prefer the simplicity of the 48months deal. I know I'd have difficulty recommending the TEsco deal to many of my friends who might find it hard to set up properly and then end up being overcharged.

OK I think I am getting you now. From what I gather the 'New' standard rate charges apply to new customers from August 28th plus to pre August 28th customers who opt in to the new bundles during the 30 day period of the bundle i.e. if you opt into the free calls then your texts cost 13 rather than 10c. But for pre August 28th customers who are out of the 30 day period of €15/20 plan the 'Old' standard rate charges apply?

No, but there's always mobitexter, etc. However, you'd need some extra credit (over and above your membership) for international texts. And they are shocking dear, at 25c a go — as are the 50c/min calls (to mobiles and landlines in Europe, 75c/min to the States and €1/min to the RoW).

I agree that the simplicity of 48 will suit a lot of people better. Still, good to see them getting some competition...

    Hi Kn

    Yes this is correct.

    For Clarity

    - All customers who join the new plans are under the same new rates whether new or existing and whether they joined before Aug 28th or not.
    - If you do not join the new plan and joined Tesco Mobile before Aug 28th you will be on the older plans with the same rates you had before we launched the new plans.
    - If you join Tesco Mobile after Aug 28th the standard rates are per the new plans even before you decide to join Talk or Text (or join neither)

    Hope this is clear.

    thanks
    Paul

Yes, I agree, 48months out of bundle and international rates are horribly expensive. But then with so much data (5GB) you are better off using apps like whatsapp, vibre, skype, etc. to keep in contact with people abroad for free.

Yes, that might not suit everyone, but I never go over €20 with 48, despite having many friends around the world.

I'm waiting with great interest to see Tesco Mobiles rates for 5GB add-on, if it comes out at much more then €10 (so €20 for 5GB data, free texts and calls) I don't see myself moving over.

Has Double Credit on top ups been removed ?

So before €15 top up gave €30 credit.
Now does a €15 top up equal €15 credit?

I saw this. Looks like it still exists but not for €15 top up?
Top Up offer gives you Double Credit every time you top up by €10, €20, €25 or €30.

Did you ever get double credit when topping up by €15? Do you even get €10 bonus credit?

Beware this potential catch in the new Tesco plans terms and conditions, O2 also have the same crazy condition in their new Freedom plans:

    My emphasis:
If you top up again before the end of the 30 day term then a new 30 day term starts. If you fail to complete the minimum top up before the end of a 30 day term then you will lose the offer benefits and will be charged the new standard rates as at the 28th August 2013.

I think this means if you topup again, after you've opted-in to this plan and topped up, then a new 30 day period starts. Also looks like to keep the plan active, you have to complete the next month's topup before the end of the current 30 days.

    Tescomobile,
You used to be so simple with your plans. Now they are more confusing than medical insurance policies. Im sticking with 48.
Do yourselves a favour and make your plans more transparent and simple.

FYI a Tesco Mobile Rep on their forum has stated that they will shortly be a) reducing the price of the 1Gb add-on and b) introducing a new 5Gb add-on. He says he is not allowed to give any further info than that but I am guessing the 1Gb add-on might fall to around €3/4 and the 5Gb add-on around the tenner mark.

What happened to the credits that you have left over from the old provider after switching to Tesco mobile?

Tesco Mobile rep on their own forum states that new data packages will be released late next week. They include a reduced price 1Gb add-on (currently €6.99) and a new 5Gb add-on.

Please contact us in the Tesco Mobile Talk To Forum if there are any questions

    regards
    Paul
