New Sky+HD 2TB Box - Need Wireless Connector?

Sky rang me last week and offered me the new Sky+HD 2TB box for free which I of course accepted.
I'd like to get Sky on demand set up.

My broadband router is in a different room/floor to the Sky box so I was gonna order the Wireless Connector to get Sky on Demand set up but I'm wondering do I need to order the Wireless Connector because I think I've read/heard somewhere that the new 2TB box has WiFi so should be able to pick up the signal?

Anyone able to shed a little light on this for me?

Yes the 2TB Wifi boxes have been released and are been issued to 'New' customers but its likely the free box they have offered you is non Wifi which means you will need the Wifi adapter to use the on demand service.
Ask the installer when he arrives if he has any of the Wifi boxes, you might get lucky!!!

Sky have recently released a new 'mini' Wifi adapter, it doesnt require a mains power connection as it draws its power direct from the sky box usb connection.
They are giving old ones away for free at the moment to existing customers, so when your new box arrives and if its the non Wifi model give them a ring and ask for a free Wifi adapter. Request the new 'mini' adapter as its neater with less cables to run.

    Hope this helps....

Hey just I relation to this, I also just got a 2tb box and wen I contacted sky about a wireless adapter I was told I would have to pay 27 euro for one as its not their fault that I got the 2tb box without the wifi. When I explained that I only got this 12 days ago I was told I was still in the cooling off phase so could cancel if I wanted to. So my question is how do I go about getting a free one if they are giving the older ones away. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I would try calling them again, a different operator may be more sympathetic to your request. If that fails go down the cancellation route, im sure they will send you one free of charge in order to keep you as a customer....

yeah rang again today and got thru to a very nice tech guy.... he not only got me a wifi adapter by charging me for it there and then, and immediatley reimbursing me on my account so that i would have it in a couple of days instead of months he also organised for a engineer to come out to look at the box as i was having a small issue with it and the last person i spoke to in relation to this basically told me to pull out all the wires, hard reset etc..... just shows how different people are in relation to helping. thanks again SCART

No problem Squirrely, delighted you had success with them....
They usually send these items out by DPD courier, expect delivery tomorrow or friday.
Let us know what you get ie. the older mains powered adapter or the new mini adapter with USB power. Tks

Just an update - engineer came and he had the 2TB box with the Wifi BUT IT WOULDNT WORK with my set up. I have my box set up in the attic, RF going into booster which puts it to all the TVs in the house - the new 2TB boxes don't have a RF output!! So they came back with the 500GB HD box and seperate WIFI box, the one that has to be plugged into the mains.

Yeah, the new Sky+ boxes have wifi, but Sky removed the modulators and replaced them with an I/O port. The IO port will allow you to plug in an external magic-eye modulator.

Unfortunately, Sky went ahead and released the new wifi box, but the modulator add-on isn't available until near the end of the month.

The i/o link is available to buy on Sky's website only if you live in the UK. I dont know what the Irish customers are supposed to do?! At £25 on their website its an absolute rip off!!

Cheaper than a Triax TriLink, though it is a shame they removed it from stock Sky boxes in favour of a wifi module (we were sent out a leaflet thing on the new Box and Sky say removing the modulator was to save electricity... amazing stuff!

    Hi guys,

Gallaghers in Rathmines have the IO Adapters. €24.99 - cheaper than Sky UK!

I called up Sky earlier this week to order a Sky Wireless Connector - specifically asked for the mini. Got it 2 days later and there was no charge. Looks like they are giving the newer ones away for free now. The new connector is much smaller than the old one and the key change is that it does not require a separate power supply or ethernet cable. Just a single USB lead does the job. It also support 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. Excellent customer service from SKY - I guess each provider needs to up their game as competition is heating up now i.e. Eircom have entered the TV market.

Retailing them out at €24.99? That's madness and a bargain, considering the cost price from a few suppliers.
