Returning from overseas.

    Hello guys. I am returning from working overseas for the past 2 years in December possibly even January, it all depends on when my contract ends . I left Ireland in November 2011 and when I left I was on social welfare. I was not entitled to jobseekers benefit as I had not contributing enough due to my status as a student. I was on Jobseekers allowance as I am a single child living at home with a mother, who herself was working at the time but earning very little. Now my mother is off work sick, receiving welfare, due to a severe medical condition and she may never work fully again.
    When I return home I will be 27 years old and I will be once again living with my mother. I have not saved much money due to my university loan repayments and the junior salary which I was on whilst I was away. I have not set foot in Ireland since 2011 and I wish to join the Irish workforce once more.

    I can not afford to come home and be unemployed without some sort of state funding. I am now significantly more experienced than I was when I left in 2011, I worked hard for 2 years gaining experience I would never of got back home.

    My question is;
    will I be entitled to anything??

    If you have a bank account in Oz I'd advise you to close it, & keep your final statement showing the closure & zero balance. It might also be a good idea to get a letter from your present or most recent employer confirming that you no longer work there or your intended finish date. I assume you don't own property over there & are renting, in which case it might also be a good idea to get a copy of most recent lease and/or a letter from your landlord stating that you no longer rent from them or when you intend stopping. Basically, anything that proves that you are cutting all ties with Australia would possibly be of benefit to you in the event that there is any question as regards habitual residence.

    I'm not saying that you would definitely need all or any of the above, but it's better be safe than sorry, plus that sort of stuff is so much easier to lay your hands on when you're actually right there instead of trying to get it when you're thousands of miles away.
