I haven't played either before, does anyone have any recommendations about either course?

    Hope this helps:
    Photos of Blainroe

    Photos of Wicklow

Wicklow has bigger climbs and more shapes to fairways. I'd say it was a sterner test of golf. Blainroe has more rhythm and is more relaxing - still some climbs, and a lot of big bunkers. Photos should help you decide.

Blainroe is defo better imo, also harder, few tough par 4's whereas Wicklow is very short.
Views in Wicklow are magic though.

Both nice courses. Depends what you want.. a good fun round with nice views I'd pick Wicklow or if it is a sterner test of golf on a very well presented track then I'd go with Blainroe.

For a one off round I suggest Wicklow but if you ever talked about membership I'd pick Blainroe by a long stretch.

Wicklow is a shorter course (6000 yards (par 71) vs. Blainroe's 6,900 (par 72)), but I'd call it a tougher round due to the shapes of fairways and slopes. Blainroe depends more on its rough and its bunkers. If the former is short, you have more room and opportunity to recover from wayward shots. If you're not a long hitter then Blainroe would be more demanding.

    Thanks guys.

I'd also be thinking of getting membership in the area.
I was looking at Delgany, how does that compare to the two above mentioned clubs? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Funds are limited unfortunately.

Wicklow is the best value membership in the area (bearing in mind I'd be travelling from the Bray area). Probably going to join myself next year. I'd drop in for a few casual games throughout the year and the greens are always in great condition. I like its quirkiness.

Blainroe is nice but it doesn't grab me like Wicklow does.

Played Delgany once. Very well kept. Very hilly.

Did you consider Druids Heath? 10 min from Bray and a fine course!

Little bit expensive for me unfortunately.

The views along the County Dublin Coast are fabulous at Wicklow. On a clear day you can see as far as Howth Head.

Makes up for the steep climbs on many of the holes.
