You stay classy Catholic Ireland!! Maybe the RIRA should have stolen all the priceless art, property etc that the Catholic church owns instead??

Unless of course the church is going to sell them to raise money to pay the victims of abuse?? Is that not what Jesus would do?

The reason why the Church doesn't sell off its artwork is summed up here.

    http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/commentandblogs/2013/03/25/should-pope-francis-sell-off-the-vaticans-art-collection-and-give-the-money-to-the-poor-the-answer-is-an-emphatic-no/

I think a lot of property has been sold off quietly, particularly in America.

However for anyone who hasn't read the article in the OP the point is that the thieves stole items of no monetary value. The greatest relics in Catholic Church are unsellable, if that's a word. Who is going to buy the Shroud of Turin? On what planet could it be considered sellable?
I believe Evie Hone was a friend of the priest who commissioned the artwork. How insulting would it be to her generosity and skills to flog them for a couple of grand?

Also for example there are international treaties that stop the church selling assets.. For example The Vatican could not sell the Pieta, they have to abide by the Treaty that allowed the foundation of the vatican which meant they can't sell assets.

Pride of our nation, vandalising their own cultural heritage. You couldn't make it up.

No evidence at all that Republican militants were involved in the article. Shameful on the part of The Irish Catholic to spread accusations without supplying any evidence.

Hmmm I Think it was the Police behind the investigation. Also the Catholic Relics were stolen from a Protestant Church..

Wrong either way, Don't think the Irish Catholic is spreading accusations, just well known facts about the robbery.

Well the trouble is that there is no organization called the New Real IRA- so basically we have a made up organization and the only source given is "The Sunday World" and not the Garda. I dont support physical force Republicanism at all but I can see a general slander aimed at it when I see it.
