Wanted: cheap chainset for old single speed racer

Have an old racer converted to single speed. The teeth on the chain ring are practically worn away and now bike is unrideable. The bike shops I've tried have been no use. Anyone have a chainset going that wud suit an old racer, square taper. Current one has got 52 teeth but a slightly smaller one would work too.
