Great day down in Cork with some phenomenal lifting. The weather even co-operated with the outdoor event for the most part!

    Anto's 300 wasn't bad!

255@80kg ain't bad either, there's a few 3xBW there too, the overall unequipped standard looks pretty damn good, I don't see what you mean Daz.

    Lisa 160kg @ -70kg. Now that's impressive.

Had a junior lad pull 205kg at 63kg as well... that was immense.

In fairness, okay, not the best meet in the world in terms of huge lifts or records. I missed a double BW pull twice... I'm definitely not helping the cause from that perspective.

However, I had five people down with me who were competing for the first time. There were, based on the number of lifters in shorts/t-shirts, at least 30-35 first time lifters there.

The IDFPA have done a fantastic job this year in organizing frequent, well run, welcoming competitions where new and experienced lifters have gotten a chance to compete. Yes, the average Wilks is probably well below a GPC or IPO competition but the numbers entering are definitely higher.

I'm not arguing for quantity over quality but everybody has to start somewhere and I think the size of the recent IDFPA comps is a good sign for the growth of powerlifting in Ireland and hopefully a decent amount of lifters stick with it and start putting up some really serious numbers in the next couple of years.

I had a gloss and there was only one pull that was 300 or over.
I tend to look at maximum weight when it comes to deadlifts. Yes some good pulls, 2xBW is a minimum for a decent pull.

I just don't see anything special with sub 200 pull no matter what weight you are, sorry!

The 265 at what 83 is very good!

3x bodyweight at 60kg > 2x bodyweight at 140kg for me any day of the week.

I was only looking at the results from a numbers point of view.

My perspective has somewhat changed over the years and the numbers aren't impressive to me.

It's great to see powerlifting grow in this country and I applaud anyone that is making this happen. The numbers in the idfpa have certainly grown, which is fantastic.
From the looks of things, they run great meets, have great equipment and the venues are excellent. That'll certainly make lifters go back.

The ipo have raised it again with holding their nationals in Dublin this year, ran efficiently and the venue was excellent. I'm actually doing the single lifts in 2 weeks, bench only as a tester for worlds.

The GPC are hopefully upping their standard, nationals can't be held in sheds. The Irish open is in Drogheda and I know this will be the best GPC meet for a while.

From a new lifter's point of view, I found the competition to be very well organised and welcoming.

I really didn't know my arse from my elbow, brought the wrong type of belt, didn't know how to call my weights, hadn't a clue about what weight to start with, I could go on! But everyone was friendly and accommodating and full of advice and loans of regulation belts. I didn't know you couldn't wear fitted shorts but luckily I had brought 3 pairs of shorts, and had to wear my least favourite pair. :P

Found it brilliant to get to meet and chat with other female lifters, and any of the lads I was talking to were lovely too. I'm not too au fait with the numbers that are expected at a powerlifting competition, but I was pretty impressed with Anthony O'Rourke lifting 3xbw unequipped and a 65+y/o lifting 190kg!

Absolute weight in the DL is always impressive for me.

some great deads there. from a quick look there were 6 people with 3x bw dl's from a fed that is drug free thats very impressive. Disclaimer - i am not implying that stronger deadlifters / other feds are doping.

I think that's exactly the type of experience that Tom, Peter, and everybody else involved in organising the IDFPA competitions this year has been aiming for. Well done on your first competition!

Thanks Rob. You had a great gang of strong women with you! Was chatting to Arlette a bit, seems like she's got a ton of potential, she picked up her last lift like it was nothing.

It's still better than any pull you've posted. You've got a big squat, but also a big mouth, 3x BW is no mean feat, regardless of weight.

    Cop on to yourself

He might have a controversial opinion but there's no need for personal abuse, knock it off.

Yes 300 is better than any pull I've posted.

I've a big mouth?! Really, we'll if you've ever met me you'll realise this is the farthest from the truth.

I said 2xBW is a standard decent pull.....pretty sure 3xBW is far better and pretty much world class.

It'll probably take me the guts of the next 10 years to get to 3xBW, if I ever do.

It was my opinion that the results, maximum weight pulled, didn't impress me that much.

Some good pulls over all like I've said but anything under 200 doesn't do it for me.

I was very happy with the competition, we tried something new with an outdoor comp and it worked well, as Rob said there was about 30 first time lifters who did a great job and will only get even better from here out. The sport is most def on the up in Ireland!

Just one standout to me was there was guys in the -75kg pull just a shade under 3x Bw and place 5th, that's a pretty good standard!
