    Ok, laptop is a hp pavilion running vista.

    Has acting up recently and eventually yesterday it wouldn't start, would get as far as Microsoft corp screen then blank screen.....

    I did f11 attempted system restore it said no restore points.ok so decided todo factory recovery.... It starts this process, shuts down a few times, then just shuts down..... After an hour or so I turn the thing on... It starts up gets as far as windows icon in middle of screen and start up tune, then says windows could not complete the installation, to install windows on this computer restart the installation.... However I can find a way to restart the installation.... Would appreciate any help, broke at the minute and back to college in a week, having no laptop will be a disaster x

    Run a HDD check, boot from UBCD and navigate your way to HDD > Diagnostics > ViVARD.

    Hi,

    The install is failing at the sysprep stage. This is common if you chose to keep your settings intact.

    Try the following when the error is on screen.

    Hit SHIFT-F10 to bring up command prompt.

    type MMC

    Click File -> Add/Remove Snap-in... (Or CTRL+M)

    Select Computer Management (Double click and Finish on Local Computer)

    Click OK

    Double click Computer Management (Local) -> System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Users -> Double Click Administrator -> Uncheck Account is disabled -> OK

    Now right click Administrator -> Set Password... -> Set your desired password.

    Restart the PC
