Ideas for older kids at weddings...

Without starting the debate as to whether kids should go to weddings or not....has anyone ideas for ways to keep kids entertained at weddings? My own lad is 11 and some of my pals will have kids similar ages at the full day (the youngest will be 9 - oldest 13, so they are a bit old for an 'entertainer'). I also have a couple of nephews & nieces around the same age who will be there....

I don't mind from dinner time onwards really...but what about when they arrive at the hotel after the church?? All I can find online are colouring books or kids entertainers...they will only be interested in their phones or DS's I imagine...

    Any ideas:confused:

Ask the hotel if they have a room you can use and set up a Wii. ;)

That's an awesome idea! If you didn't want them to be 'away' from everyone else, see is there a part of the 'tea & coffee' area that could be cordoned off and have a tv set up there.

That's a great idea - hadn't thought of that! And I have a Wii that hasn't been used in about a year at home, so wouldn't mind if it got damaged ;-)

The hotel would hardly charge me for the use of that room though, would they?

why wouldnt they if its a bedroom?

they might have an unused function room or a foyer. use that. its most common.

I wouldn't ask for a bedroom! I would ask for an unused meeting room.

Check with the hotel what kind of facilities they have?i stayed at a hotel over the weekend that had two kids clubs one for small kids and the other for older kids/teens. If the hotel has something like this they might be happy for the kids to take part and take the strain off you.

Not sure why there is a red thumbs down at the top.

given the ages would you consider things like this Lego set

we had a table set up on the side with a box of Lego and some where's wally books, not only did it entertain the children/teengers for hours building and re building stuff and it wasn't as messy as play doh, and the 'big' children enjoyed them later on in the night when they were drunk. :pac:

(the books did get taken away by the children at the end of the night though, but they asked us could they take them first)

The hotel we are having our reception in has a wii area set up for children of all ages to play! It's off to the side of the tea and coffee area at the foyer to the function room.

One of the guests at a friend's wedding a few years back brought a few arcade machines he had in his "man cave" to the hotel and set them up in a conservatory/sun-room that was attached to the function room being used for the reception. The couple also had the hotel setup a temporary bar serving minerals in the same room.
