Are you sure you're comparing like with like? I've always found Aer Lingus to be good value when compared to other airlines and the service is definitely above average.

Book the €550 fare then, it's not like you have no choice

If Aer Lingus are full and others are not, then other people do not share your opinion. You have a great chance to snag a seat on the other arilines, take that chance rather than complaining here.

There could be any number of reasons why. Another day, another airline could be twice as expensive as Aer Lingus.

Airlines aren't a social service: they'll sell for what they can sell for. Prices vary day by day, airline by airline. It's not just them picking on you ;)

    Indeed

Aer Lingus being full is also down to code-shares.
Their service is ok for trans-atlantic.... but poor compared to most of the worlds long haul carrier.

many of the seats are filled by Delta customers.

    Huh?

Because Delta's so bad they've chosen Aer Lingus? ;)

(I assume you mean United and even then, no, Aer Lingus get's the majority of it's traffic directly)

every airline was cheaper except a Canadian one

even British airways which is expensive is cheaper

I try not to fly with united as overhead bins to small

flight booked at 620 as its a faster flight

    saved 500 from aerlingus fare
and 2 hours each way flight time

are lingus does not fly full ,on international

you can't charge nearly double the price'aer lingus service now is onlyba bit above Ryan ai

Aer Lingus can decide what they want to charge, just as you can decide who you want to fly with. Obviously some people are paying a lot more at the time you are looking at to use them, more fools them.

Prices do change all the time, I've had great prices from Aer Lingus I've also had great prices from United and American, I choose based mostly on price with time of arrival/departure next, overhead bin considerations would be way way down the list as all my gear will be in the hold.

I'm looking to go to America next summer and started looking at flights. Aer Lingus were charging €610 which I thought was actually pretty reasonable considering the time of year. But then American Airlines were offering a flight for €405. The flight times for departure and return were similar too. Wouldn't be like picking AA meant I'd be losing a day or anything, arrive early in the morning and return middle of the night with the time difference exactly like Aer Lingus.

Last time I went to America I did fly with Aer Lingus and it was a grand service. I could never fault their service to be honest. In all the years of flying, majority of the time it's been with Aer Lingus. But I think I know who I'll be going with unless that price drops, maybe after Christmas in the January sales.

Would like to introduce the concept of supply and demand. One thing are your dates for a peak travel period and if they are then for best fares you need to book well in advance. If its for next summer then don't book yet.

You want to guarantee a price better than €405 for next summer???

Oh, I planning on getting the lowest price I can get. I can't afford to pay from them right now. So whatever the lowest price is at the time, I'll be booking it.

No I am not but it just depends on what part of the summer, if this price is outside the main peak season then yes you should book.

This *has* to qualify as one of the classic lines. Just think about it for a second. It's close on the "if my aunt had . . . she would be my uncle" thing.

People really need to get rid of this "Aer Lingus owe me a good fare because . . . well, because they're Irish and I'm Irish. And they flew the pope. And we're a great country altogether" thing.

They are a company. They have shareholders, they have customers. Their job is to maximise the profit for the shareholders. This profit is obtained by and large from the customers.

As a customer (or potential customer), your job is to get the best mix of fare & other conditions such as departure & arrival times, connections, arrival airport (where there are more than one in a city), frequent flyer points, etc . . . that suit *you*. If Aer Lingus provide it, then that's cool. If Swiss provide it, then that's cool. If Air France provide it then that's cool. You aren't doing yourself any favours by having some sort of "Aer Lingus is the baseline" scenario.

most people don't think aerlingus has the highest fares

maybe its the gathering is why they are ripping people off

years ago you had few choices to get to Ireland

    now theres a lot more

by the way security in terminal 2 is chaos,it used to be great, now they have incompatant staff

    so expect delays

also us customs preclearance is slow it used to take 20 minutes to get through terminal 2 now over an hour

I don't know why aerlingus does not use preclearance for us customs
as at Chicago it adds 2 hours to your journey, other american flights you arrive in same terminal its a 2 minute walk, in Chicago on aerlingus you arrive, wait at passport control for an hour, then you have to get your bag and and clear cutoms then recheck it,then you have to find the train to next terminal, which is not sign posted well, then in Chicago they built a bottle neck
they built shops in front of security control, and only a small entrance, thats a 40 minute wait,
also when you transfare to domestic flight they don't feed you for 6 hours

Its not Aer Lingus fault that the US immigration and security downsized their staff at Dublin airport this summer.

If demand goes up then of course its going to cost more.

Usually find Aer Lingus lots cheaper than the alternative for many routes. Booking in advance and not for high season helps.
