does it not just depend on the cleats on the shoes?

They are. Both are SPD SL - ie the shoes will have three holes and accept the cleats that come with those pedals. You want to avoid SPD (non SL) type shoes.

Yeah they're compatible. The cleats come with the pedals, so it depends if the shoes can have the cleats fitted to them. In slookie's case, the shoes are road shoes and the cleats are for road pedals, so they'll fit.
