HP DesignJet 120 print driver for Win7 64bit

Posting this in vague hope that someone might have an idea! I have a large format A1 inkjet printer - HP DesignJet 120, which I purchased about 6 or 7 years ago. It's a fine printer and in good nick etc., does the job. It's not ancient technology by any means.. but

It seems that HP don't want to support their customers though as they don't provide a driver for this printer for Windows 7. I looked hard a couple of years ago and had to keep an old PC as a driver in the interim. But this is getting a bit ridiculous. Checked again recently and still can't find a HP driver.

Has anyone come across this issue elsewhere and are there any other compatible print drivers that might run this printer from Win 7, 64 bit version??

Thanks if you can help and sorry that it doesn't reflect very well on HP.

Have you tried the HP Universal Print Driver, OP? We use this at work and while I don't have an individual driver listing for the DesignJet 120 on my system, it's certainly worth trying. HP's focus over the last few years has been on getting all their printers to comply with the UPD as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the suggestion, looking at that - I see a WIN 7 64bit for a HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL5. I could try this I guess but as far as I can see from specs, the DesignJet 120 uses PCL3. Maybe that's the catch??

It could well be. To be honest, even PCL5 is pretty old hat positively ancient these days (just looked it up and PCL6 was introduced almost 20 years ago, and PCL3 more like 30 years ago!) - at this point I'd be looking for PostScript support if anything, but obviously with specialist kit like an A1 printer I understand you're a bit more constrained in your options.

The HP Universal Print Driver does not support Designjet printers.

The Windows 7 64-bit driver for the newer Designjet 130 seems to be the solution.

Well, what do you know lads - thanks. The Designjet 130 driver seems to work OK - I'm sure I checked that avenue back a couple of years ago when Win 7 came in. I've just tested at A4 but I see the other paper sizes and so on, so we should be fine. Any problems and I'll report back in case of any benefit to others. Thanks again.
