New to Cycling - Looking for some help

    Hi everyone,

I am not sure if my post should be here or in the cycling training logs - if you think it should be moved please do so.

Anyway what I am looking for is some advice. I have recently got myself a new hybrid bike and have been out and about in Dublin, in around Phoenix Park - which I am really enjoying, but I am looking to broaden my horizons, so any advice on new routes to try, places to head to would be most welcome. I am living in around the Kilmainham area and at the minute am able for 2-2 1/2 hr cycles.

    Thanks for your help.

Out the R114 to Blessington lakes.
Over to clontarf and along the coast to howth hill .

And my favorites, south to stocking lane or cruagh road and on up into the Dublin hills then Wicklow if you like.
That's a bit hillier than others but if you can do 2 1/2 he cycles you must be reasonably fit already.

I posted a similar thread a week or two ago - I'm on my phone now or I'd find you the link but search for Rathmines and routes in this forum and you'll find it or it's in the 2nd last post of my training log in the training forum.

There are relatively flat quiet routes North West out of Phoenix Park. My preferred route to West out of Dublin is towards Summerhill via Kilcloon, as shown in attached Google map clip. If you open Google maps in this area a complete network of minor roads/lanes are visible. The roads are relatively sheltered and surfaces are good.
As you improve you cycling endurance you can push out our distances. For climbing endurance consider heading towards the hills, Cruagh/Military road towards Laragh.
