No beeps, no POST. Hardwareversand returns...

Original Thread where I detail the parts of this build: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057009711

Parts arrived for my build yesterday and assembly went fine, however, I’ve no POST beeps and nothing on screen. I’ve tried:

    1) Taking everything non-essential off the board (incl. RAM)
    2) Resetting CMOS with jumper (haven’t tried removing battery yet though but don’t hold out much hope of that being the issue)
    3) Checking, double checking, triple checking the power connection (20 + 4 pin) and ATX 12V (tried with both with 4 pin connector and 8 pin just in case)
    4) Using headphones in case there’s no speaker with my case…nothing.

So what happens when I power up:

    1) PSU fan and led comes on
    2) When HDD’s are connected I can hear them spin up
    3) CPU fan comes on
    4) GPU fans, when it’s connected, come on.
    5) No beeps, nothing on screen.

There’s no on board HDMI / VGA / DVI port for me to try but I suppose the important thing here is that I’m not getting any POST beeps at all so I think it’s either the PSU, CPU or motherboard.

I’ve no spare PSU to check with, no replacement chip to try and no other mobo to use, so what do I do?

I’m pretty sure one of these parts needs replacing but which? This can’t be that unusual a scenario, so I’m hoping someone else in my situation had to figure out what part was faulty and replace it or send everything back to Hardwareversand.

Does anyone know Hardwareversand’s policy with returns, presume I can’t just send back mobo, chip, psu and tell them something is not working?!

Alternatively, is there a kind soul somewhere in Dublin who would be willing to help me eliminate the some element of this build as being the problem, ie. Have access to a 450W or better PSU for testing?

I’m at a loss here so any help is appreciated.

Does your board even have a speaker?
I think a lot of the newer ones don't.

Any leds on the mobo that help with issues or does it have a small lcd display for error codes?

One other thing you can try is build it outside the case on the off chance there is a short somewhere.

    Where in dublin are you?

A tiny speaker should have come with the mobo for the beeps. It plugs into some pins on the mobo. It is seperate to the audio jacks for speakers and headphones, you wont hear the beeps over them.

Not sure if it's the case or the board that is supposed to have a speaker, there doesn't appear to be any LEDs on it. The PSU LED lights up fine, the front buttons work (which would lead me to believe I have the header wired up correctly).

I try breadboarding it (well, using cardboard) outside of the case with nothing on it except the CPU and PSU, still nothing.

    Am in Marino.

Ok...progress, you're right 'something' did come with the mobo, I thought it was an infra-red thing but it was probably a speaker alright. I'm an idiot, I should have connected it but just presumed it was for something else.

Damn, soonest I can try is this evening. I wonder though, even if it does now give me beeps, what could the problem be? At least it looks like I'm making some progress, thanks for help so far guys.

Hopefully the beep codes will point you in the right direction.
At this stage it could be anything though.

Can you keep this to 1 thread please.

Creating a new thread and asking for help with no list of specs and no link to your original thread makes it hard for people to help you.

Did you connect the power cables to your graphics card from the psu?

Sorry was in panic mode when created the new thread.

I've connected power cables to gfx card, also tried without any card in it. However, me stupidly overlooking that speaker *might* be what saves me. I still anticipate there being something wrong with the system but I'm praying it's something I can narrow down with the aid of the beeps.

I've read one thread already of someone with the same mobo but with the speaker connected and they still didn't get any beeps, hopefully I hear something though.

    Appreciate all help so far.

What slot do you have the g-card in? I'm not sure if they work in both slots or not but it should normally be in the top pcie slot.

What connection do you have the monitor connected to?

Ok, added the speaker, got 5 beeps......aaaand I think I should have double checked the order before placing it. It looks to me that the GFX card requires a 550 W PSU, whereas I ordered a 450W.

Reason I think this, the 5 beeps mean no GFX (which was correct there was none), as soon as I added the card I got no beeps. Further reading showed that the card requires 550W.

At least I know now but I wish I'd looked at the extended requirements for the card before ordering.

The power supply is fine and more than enough for the system.

That pc wouldn't use any more than 200-250w max.

    Can you answer the questions?

Also make the sure the card is secure in the top pice slot with the 6 pin power connection in place.

Hmm...was on my way out to buy a new PSU in Maplin. I've got the card securely in the top slot, power connected but no joy, no beeps.
Surely if the card description says it needs a 550W minimum that's my problem no?

    Whats your spec?

You have a 7770? You could nearly run that off the power supplied by the PCI Express slot! It could still be a faulty PSU, but if it is working alright it should be more than ample for what you have.

I would troubleshoot some more before buying another PSU.

What connection on the GPU are you using? Can you use any of the others?

I've literally no idea what I've changed or done but it's started working. Still no beeps but I'm seeing the BIOS on the monitor now. Bizarre, I can't think of anything I did differently except lift the PC downstairs and back up to try a different table to build on.

So far so good, getting windows on to it is difficult now I've realised all my disc drives are IDE. Thanks for all the helps guys, hopefully it's plain sailing from here on out....
