A BBC program reported that the BBC pays £6/minute in royalties for any music played.
Anyone have an idea what RTE pays? Just curious.

No, but I'd be surprised if they didn't tell you if you asked. Also paid by independents and if memory serves me , it's administered in Ireland by IMRO

Surely it depends which BBC station. Ive heard mention of £ 90 per song for BBC Radio One (probably explains why theres so much inane waffle on said station) put presumably Backofbeyondshires local BBC station would pay much less ?

It does depend on which station. I see these figures quoted on the BBC Local Radio Forum, but they are for 2010 so not sure what the figures are now. The interesting thing I found was the difference between BBC and the commercial stations that are similar, for example BBC Radio 3 is paying almost 2.5 times what Classic FM pays, also BBC Radio 5 LIVE pays almost 3 times what Talksport pays. This is discussed on the forum a bit but no concrete answer seems to be arrived at.

Station Value Per Minute (Dec 2010)
    BBC Radio 1 £16.84
    BBC Radio 2 £22.71
    BBC Radio 3 £11.07
    BBC Radio 4 £26.40
    BBC Five Live £7.72
    BBC World Service £17.94
    Classic FM £4.55
    Talk Sport £2.66
    Absolute Radio 105.8 £0.62

Odd given that Classic FM have a larger audience

Seemingly rates in UK/Ireland are very high by international standards. Most stations on the continent (e.g. The Netherlands) pay far less.
