Windows 8 - Exiting Tabbed Pages

Having a problem with Windows 8, whereas randomly a page in my case now a page to do with picture files on the computer, will pop up. I then have to alt+tab back to the desktop.

I would exit the other tabbed pages that come up but I don't see an option.

Is there a solution for this?

Is a piece of software opening up? I can't quite gather from your description what's happening. Is it when you open an image, it goes full screen? If it is then right click on (any image) and choose "Open With", click on "Choose Default.." then pick Windows Photo Viewer.
Also to get from modern apps to desktop quicker click the very bottom left hand corner of the screen (where you'd expect start button). This will switch between apps/views. (Another hint-right click in here for other useful shortcuts to stuff :) )

No, it's not opening an image. It could be any app, in this case it was a photo related windows app. Happens from time to time when I usually accidentally open it when trying to open another program. It then occasionally will switch into a full screen of the app and I couldn't find any "x" button to exit it, only was able to alt+tab out of it.

To exit an app move the cursor up to the top of it and when the hand symbol appears click and pull down (thank you Microsoft for not making this clear!). Once you do this the start menu opens and you can click into desktop. Apps shouldn't be opening automatically though, does your keyboard have special buttons/touchpad gestures etc.?
