About 6 months ago there was a thread on bargain alerts about a UK outfit http://www.eyewearoutlet.co.uk/

They sell discounted Oakley sunglasses - at the time I bought a pair for £69 or so (delivered via Parcel Motel). Glasses are genuine and excellent.

I know they don't sell Rayban, but if you are looking for Oakley (or some other brands) at discounted prices, you could do a lot worse.

I love their Exchange and Return policy...

We require you don''t use merely the "Beats shelf box" when you ship goods back. Please pack the Beats box in an outer, separate shipping box. For any more questions, please contact us and the address (this address can''t accept return).

Return address will be sent to you, but please contact us first online.

Our store reserves the right to inspect returned items to determine if the product has been worn, used or altered. If the returned Beats is not in resellable condition, a shipping fee will be charged to your credit card and Beats will be returned to customer

I wonder if they will combine postage for Ray Bans and Beats! Sure they probably have iPhones that could be bundled into a deal as well!

Its a little bit off topic but I saw something really interesting about sun glasses on reddit recently

    (Hopefully that works in Ireland)

The TL;DW is that all the major sun glass brand are all the one manufacturer "Luxottica".

They own the likes of Ray-Ban and Oakley and they license the brands for D&G, Prada etc. The big designers do not design their own sunglasses, Prada or whoever would send images of their up coming collection and Luxottica design and make them. All their glasses are made in Italy.

There's loads of them on ebay. Stick to the well reviewed sellers to avoid fakes. I got a genuine one for just over €80 last year.

I know where there's a set of RayBan Aviators, polarised, used about 2weeks, just waiting to be packed up, about 100 metres away from my house.

Unfortunately you will need to be a diver as they are in 3 to 6 metres of muddy water. Last seen as they fell off the top of my head as I leaned over to cast off. Sob.

Kildare village - David Clulow (sunglasses hut) - stock them cheaper than the highstreet

    Cheaper than asos, etc. :pac:

    Where are you based?
I know alot of divers.. If you know to within a meter or two where they are it should be a 5 minute job.
Getting to you and Gearing up will take longer.

Ta. There's a lot of divers who go out from our slipway - I offered one of them €30 to have a peek on his way back from a session but I guess he forgot ( or now has a nice set of specs!). I'll try again though with the currents who knows where it is by now.

A bit off topic, but reminds me of this article on the low/mid range earphone market: http://gizmodo.com/5617200/the-secret-scam-of-cheap-earbuds

Basically, it goes through how brands such as Skullcandy and iLuv source their products. Unsurprisingly, they all come out of the same factory and any earphones that cost under €50 will generally be of the same sound quality.

    That's pretty much it.

Since Bosch & Lomb stopped making the lenses for RayBan they're pretty much the same as any other pair of luxury sunglasses on the market, overpriced for what you get.

Holy crap! They make nearly every brand and own most of the North American shops too (Sunglass Hut, Pearle Vision, LensCrafters)? Why is there no antitrust case against them?

I have 4 pairs of old RayBans without the white logo - they just have BL etched on each lens.

Tbh, I wouldn't even wear a pair with the white logo.

B&L made the best Ray Bans. The different styles of Aviators they made were outstanding .i.e Driving Series, Brow Bar, Colour of lenses etc

It makes more sense to buy a vintage pair on ebay for €100 than pay €140 for a cheap feeling Luxoticca pair.

Not to mentio Luxoticca now produce some of their Ray Ban frames in China! F*ck that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭Bugnut

I have 6 pairs of RayBans the oldest of which are from the 80's.
The quality has declined since B&L have stopped making the lenses, without question.

In fact a pair of new €200 polarised glasses I bought about 4 months ago are seriously outperformed by a 20 year old pair of non polarised B&L made glasses.

    Progress eh ?

As regards the Ray-Ban-Ireland site.....it is definately fraudulent, not dodgy but fraudulent !
I have personal experience of this as I got caught out , I know , I know , serves me right etc etc......However.

I was on the Genuine RayBan Ireland facebook page having a gander when the advertisement on the right of the page popped up as the "Ray-Ban Ireland" site, stating 90% end of line sale.

Incorrectly, I acknowledge, I assumed that Facebook would have checked that a recognised brand advertising on their site was genuine and I ordered a couple of pairs.
Only seconds after I ordered I thought it funny that they would be sent from China and contacted my bank.

Sure enough the payment was taken from my account by a Hotel in China.

    Lesson learnt.

No human looks at the ads. Software does, and none of the fake sunglasses ads ever have the real brand name in. One I had there a few seconds ago had "Ray/Ban" and the fake Oakley ones are usually written using some cyrillic characters as standins.
